Does anyone with incognito eat normally - ever????

    OK I'm now 36 hours in....and I am panicing.

I think I am going to get my braces off. My teeth aren't too crooked and I love food. The thought of eating mashed potato etc for the next 6 months scares the hell outta me! I have not pain and no blisters (lucky I know) all my problems are with not being able to chew - I feel like I'm going to choke when I'm eating. I tried mushy cereal this morning and even that was difficult.

Will this get better ?????? (although I don't see how, as I can't join my back teeth) If I knew it would get better that would be ok - put as I say, I'm not eating pureed food for the next few months.

I'm really disappointed, but I'd rather be happy.I just don't know why this problem, which seems quite common, isn't made clearer whe you get the braces

I have just regular metal braces, but I understand how you feel, I also have an expander on the roof of my mouth that made it feel like I was choking when I ate; it took a while for me to eat the same as I used to. I know it sucks right now but it will get better and you will get used to it; I Promise And your teeth will come together, if you look at my pictures I have up I couldn't touch my front teeth, which means everything I ate was cut into small pieces (even snadwhiches ) but now I can bite the end of a pen. My ortho told me it's all a part of fixing my bite and soon they will touch. You will learn to eat with out your teeth touching like your used to.

How long do you need to wear braces?

    Hey

    Thanks for the reply

Braces are supposed to be on for 6 months - so I know I should stop moaning! I just had a huge panic about Christmas and enjoying food. I never realised how much I enjoyed food until now! I like cooking etc - I don't just eat b/c I have to....

The thing about my brace is that it is just on the top and it's only on 10 teeth - it was only supposed to be 6-8 teeth but my ortho has a way of just doing that little bit more! my worry about my bite is that my bottom teeth are hitting my brace. They aren't fixing my bite - it's purely cosmetic. I also have a few problems with my jaw so over chewing is making it sore...

But to be a bit more positive, eating is getting a bit easier. My lovely mum made me Roast Chicken and all the trimmings last night and couple this with 3 glasses of white wine eating was easier. Conclusion I will have a lovely smile in 6 months, but be an alcoholic!

I'm going to keep this thread as a kind of blog - so people can see how things are going. If I don't write I guess you can assume it's all going ok and I have nothing to moan about!!!

One tip that I am finding - but keep in mind this might just be me and at the moment (touch wood) I don't have too much pain- is that I find food that needs chewing a bit easier. Not hard crusts or anything, but I am finding that things like weetabix that kinda need chewing, need my teeth to meet closer - and when they won't it freaks me out. If I eat chicken or a soft bread sandwich, i actually can chew that a little bit and psychologically that's easier....hope that makes sense.

I'm going to see how things go for the next few weeks and if I still hate it, I think they'll have to come off.....but we'll see

Dental braces (also known as orthodontic braces, or simply braces) are devices used in orthodontics that align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a person's bite, while also working to improve dental health. They are often used to correct underbites, as well as malocclusions, overbites, cross bites, open bites, deep bites, crooked teeth, and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. Braces can be either cosmetic or structural. Dental braces or orthodontic braces are often used in conjunction with other orthodontic appliances to help widen the palate or jaws and to otherwise assist in shaping the teeth and jaws.
