    Hi

I hope you don't mind me replying by PM, but I don't feel the existing thread is going anywhere.

I'm not pushing any one type of bracket, but rather when our practice was part of a three country research project looking at bacteria on brackets ... and it's necessary to remember that some bacteria is necessary and healthy ... it was found that ceramic brackets with ligatures were the easiest to keep clean, due to them having a small vertical groove. The reason they have this small vertical groove, is that the designers make the wings larger for comfort, giving the bracket a smooth feel.

The brackets that showed the most bacteria counts where SL with doors. SL brackets with a clip system, that does not cover the archwire were the same as brackets with ligatures.

Good luck with your child's treatment, and I'm sure that as long as you trust the orthodontist who will treat your child, all will go well.

    Sunny
