Thanks for your reply! Inasmuch as I am saddened to hear of your plight with your retainers as well, it is good to know that I am not the only one having difficulties. I have been having horrible headaches from my bite being off that I am seriously considering going to an ortho for a second opinion and hopefully I will get suggestions on other retention appliances that are available
  2. Hi Momma, retainers are good. The 'new tray' feeling lasted about 10 days. It took about 6 weeks of full time wear before I felt brave enough to leave them out for any length of time (4+ hours). They still feel tight now after a few hours of being out and I feel my bite changing too so I'm with you on that one! The longest stretch I leave them out for is about 7 hours, try not to do that every day though.
My lower retainer has already cracked at the back which isnt too much of a problem at the moment as its on my wisdom tooth part. If it gets any worse then I will call my ortho.
There are times I wish I had gone for fixed retainers....maybe I will in time

    Hi Kazza,
how are you doing with your retainers? I am on my second set of retainers, after doing refinements to correct the movements that my original retainers messed up, but unfortunately I have had movement with my second set as well. I was wondering, how long did it take you wearing your retainers that they no longer had that "new tray" feeling. My retainers are moving one of my top front teeth inward and when I take the trays out my bite is bad, the tooth hits the bottom one underneath. After the pressure of eating and having the trays out for an hour or two the tooth moves out and my bite is good but when I put my retainers back in, i have that "new tray" pressure in that one tooth, pushing it back again. I would think after 4 weeks that I should be able to snap them on and off easily.I am still keeping the retainers in at least 20 hours a day too! any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated as I want to have as much knowlege as i can for when i go to my provider.
