Hi Jessica. Yes my surgery will be to correct my open bite. I also have sever overjet, but my Ortho thinks that he will be able to correct most of that with braces. I meet with my surgeon in a month for the first time so hopefully I will have a lot more information about my treatment when that time comes. I would love if you kept us updated here!

Yes, I saw your photos. Our cases are very similar. My Ortho estimated that I would have surgery in a year's time of wearing braces. I had the braces put on in September 2009 so I should be ready for surgery around fall of 2010. I meet with my surgeon in December to find out for sure if it will be just my lower jaw moved forward. That is what my Ortho figures he will want to do, but I will find out the verdict then. I am keeping a blog on my treatment @ K's Journey - Metal Braces and Jaw Surgery if you would like to check it out. Take care!

Wednesday November 11, 2009 was the 8 week mark that I have been wearing braces and Thursday November 12, 2009 was my first adjustment. The adjustment took longer then I expected, but then again, it was my first adjustment and I really didn't know what to expect. If that makes any sense at all. My appointment at the Ortho took over an hour. Both arch wires on the top and bottom sets of teeth were changed to a bigger size. 14g to 16g. It felt so nice that few seconds while the Ortho was swapping...

Today is officially the 4 week mark since I've been wearing braces. I don't really have much to report. Things are going good. I get sore teeth here and there, but I actually like that feeling, cause it reminds me that they are moving. Every day I think about having that perfect bite and smile. I know it's a long way away for me, but I still day dream when my day will come. I have hated my teeth and smile for so long....I can't wait until I forget how horrible my teeth/bite are and actually have...

Well I made it through my first week in braces! Woo hoo! Hopefully, besides the surgery part of my treatment, this will have been the hardest part. Everyday just keeps getting better. I am back to eating pretty much like I did pre braces. I still don't think I could bite into something with my front teeth yet, even if I was allowed to. But my teeth's sensitivity to pressure has pretty much dissipated completely in my molars. I once again enjoy eating and even though I want to take advantage of...

Well today has been much better then yesterday. First off, I didn't wake up feeling like someone had hit me in the teeth with a sledge hammer! I have only had to take one Advil today, and that was after brushing my teeth this morning. My teeth are still quite sensitive to pressure, so still sticking to the soft foods. It is very painful to floss, but I suck it up and do it anyway. I am really looking forward to being able to go back to eating like normal again and chewing! I really miss chewing,...

So my appointment for braces to be put on was yesterday (Sept. 16/09) morning at 9:10 AM. Everything went by pretty quick it seemed, though it was 11 AM before I left the Ortho's office.

I came in a few minutes early, but they were prepared and have everything ready to go. So I went in and sat down and they polished my teeth off first. Then the cheek expander went in..which was uncomfortable for me, cause it rubbed on the top of my gum line.

My brackets were already...
