Hi, I'm Anny!I'm thirty and have been wearing ceramic braces on my top teeth since November. I just got the bottom ones today and found this forum while trying to figure out chewing.
I have bands on my top molars but the bottom ones are too close (in spite of January's wisdom teeth extraction) so I have metal brackets on the back two bottom molars.
I have a bit of an overbite and can't figure out how to chew yet. When I close my mouth two of my braces hit the back of two of my top teeth. If I line up the front teeth "perfectly" there is a gap between my molars in the back. I've attempted one meal since the bottom braces came on (pasta) and there was a lot of futile grinding involved LOL
Overall the braces have been great and I would forget I even had the top ones until someone made a comment. I look forward to forgetting about the bottoms too!
Oh I am totally open to chewing suggestions!![]()
Welcome Anny.
It is VERY common for you bite to get worse before it gets better.... Atleast now with full braces, your ortho can begin to align things for you.
I think you'll get the hang of it within a weeks time... the first few days are the feel out period
Good Luck and I recommend you keep a blog here
Thanks Mike! I'll definitely be setting up a blog![]()

I had my upper braces on for 17 months, 1 week and 2 days.
The bottoms were on for 13 months and 3 days
Great your lowers are on Anny!
If you think you're at risk of chipping the top two teeth, you'd be best to give your ortho a call so this can be checked out. It is possible to put some molar buildup on, so that the buildup meets for you to chew on, until the necessary tooth movement is made for your molars to meet in the correct way.
Apart from that, you're best to keep practising chewing and if necessary eating as much soft food as possible to keep your health at it's premium.
Take care.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Thank you for the suggestion Sunny, I googled around (ironically my first searches all came back to this board) and will be calling tomorrow morning. I think my chewing problems are just fear of chipping the back of the top teeth![]()

Welcome Anny!
That's great that you started a blog!
The hard part, getting braces on both arches, is behind you!![]()
Hi Anny
When I first got my braces, I got both arches braces and it was very awkward to bite down for a couple of weeks. After a while I ended up adapting somehow. Give it some time
Good luck!
