    Smile Braces on today

    Hi everyone
I found this site whilst fretting about getting my braces last night!! I spend hours looking through all the posts and got some fantastic advice - thanks.
I am 28 and had my braces fitted this morning.
I have full metal train tracks on my bottom teeth with a removable aligner behind and a removable aligner on my top teeth to make some room before I move onto train tracks there too.
I was really anxious but it was actually ok. They don't hurt yet but I have put some wax on the train tracks as my lips felt sore. I went for pink bands but wish I didn't - will go for clear or silver next time.
I have a really bad lisp and my other half thinks its highly amusing I tried to shout at him earlier but he just ended up rolling around laughing!!!! Glad I have such a supportive fella
Once my teeth are ready I am going to move onto invisalign which should hopefully be in about 6 - 9 months

    Hi and welcome 28!

Great your treatment has started and you're able to mix your treatments to suit your needs.

Good luck with getting used to the removable appliances and hopefully your lisp will become less frustrating as you do!

Remember to keep well hydrated and it's great you're letting the wax toughen the inside of your mouth, without having to worry about mouth sores.

    Take care!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I had the same lisp, horribly for about the first three days. I still have it occasionally but I'm learning how to move my lips over the braces. All I can say is use lots of wax and lots and lots of chap stick. I have cut my bottom lip on my brackets about three times now. My husband also thought my lisp was quite amusing. I have an extraction for two teeth tomorrow and then I get my upper wire on the 29th. I am just going to look SO good walking around the office with a side tooth missing, brackets with no wire, and my cut lip haha. I couldn't care less though, in a year and a half I know we're all going have amazing smiles!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome
Have had a good first day - my teeth arn't too sore. Just one at the front thats bothering me so far but I like the feeling as its obviously doing something. No pain no gain My mouth is very very dry so I am drinking loads - which is always good as I don't always drink enough water.
Had soup for lunch and an ommlette for dinner yummy!!!!!

Great that you're making sure your hydration is good ... sounds like this will be a good way to get you used to having more fluids, something that's good for our whole bodies health.

Great that your teeth aren't sore. For most people, orthodontic treatment is pain free with minimal discomfort. Hopefully you'll be with the majority!

    New too!

Hi there! I do feel your pain!

I am sat here in the Office with a gap where one pre-molar once lived and top and bottom ceramic braces!!! Nice!

I am sure your lisp will go in no time as you get used to things.

I am only one week in and already things are on the move...check us out we are sooo brave.
