Hi,
I am new to this site and wondered whether anyone could offer any advice? I am in the middle of an appointment with my orthodontist and surgeon at the moment. I am eagerly awaiting what they have to say. I definitely need jaw surgery on my top and bottom jaws as my teeth do not meet anywhere and I have an open bite and over bite. I am sure I want to go ahead with treatment however I have heard that relapse can happen and that is worrying me a little. The thought of going through everything for nothing. They told me that my lower jaw would need to be moved forward considerably and that relapse is likely to happen when the bottom jaw is moved a lot. My orthodontist did not say anything like this though and I have read up on other stories where the results have been permanent.
Has anyone had the same bite problems or does anyone have any answers for me.
I live in the UK.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Julie
Please talk to your surgeon (and ortho) about this, as you need reasurrance. Also talk to ortho surgeons, if you're feeling so unsure.
I've not had jaw surgery, but was told if I had, my results would have been less likely to relapse.
I work for an orthodontist and surgery is usually the ultimate, due to plates, screws etc holding the jaw in it's new place.
I've not done any study re jaw surgery, but I know the ortho's I work for believe in it.
Good luck getting more information from the people who're working on your teeth!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Hi Sunny,
Thanks for your response.
