    24 hours and counting

    Hi All,
Had my invisalign braces on for 24 hours now. Wasn't prepared for how uncomfortable they would feel, (they are super tight and so the ortho passed on adding the "bumps" for now) but after reading the posts of folks with traditional braces I don't feel I have it so bad. My mouth is sore from where the plastic aligner rubs my under tounge. Hard to imaging getting used to this! How long does it take to adjust to having them?

i was pain free after 2 days (no pressure pain) but have really bad mouth sores from the rubbing, it gets better as each day goes on.
    good luck with your journey

Thanks Emma, I'm looking forward to "forgetting I am wearing them". 10 months of this seems like such a long time. But it is feeling a bit more comfortable already. Thanks for the encouragement. Lizzie

if you're getting sores, file down the rough spots on your aligners with an emery board or nail file. This will not harm the aligner at all and you will immediately notice the difference.

Lizzie you should be able to file the area that's rough on your aligner with an emery board. Do it gently and keep checking. Aligners are usually easy to smooth and this will make life much easier for your tongue. Good luck!

Emma having braces is not reason to have rubbing. Wax was designed to prevent this. It's important to look after the inside of your mouth and that's why wax is so good to use.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Thank you so much for the encourgement everyone. I tried the emery board technique and that helped some. I'm also getting more used to having all that plastic in my mouth. It is kind of fun that nobody notices I even have them on! For folks with invisalign, do you have to go through all the rubbing and soreness every time you get a new aligner?
    Thanks again, Lizzie
