archwire

i just got a archwire put in that runs across the roof of my mouth. i find it difficult to eat sometimes and my speech is a little different. whenever i swallow im afraid im going to move it. is this normal? any advice or tips would be wonderful

Hi and welcome to this forum Rachie!

Any new hardware usually results in a period of adjustment. Usually the adjustment period is a short one and hopefully this is how you'll find adjusting to having a TPA. Our patients usually find these affect their speech slightly, may annoy their tongue and food may get caught in the TPA to begin with, but this is usually quickly adjusted to.

The TPA should never move, as it should be made of a wire ... much more solid than an archwire.
