Hi Everyone. I just started my Invisalign treatment and with all the research I've done I came across this forum, so I figured ill join. I already had my Invisalign consultation and impressions, I'm now awaiting my trays. Im very anxious and the time doesn't seem to be moving fast enough. Thats pretty much where I stand with my invisalign.
Tara
Fantastic that you're soon to begin your invisalign treatment Tara!
Hopefully you'll find loads of great advice on this forum and if you have a question please ask.
Good luck with getting started on your journey towards a great smile.![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Thank you thank you. I do have a question, it's about to be 3 wks since my impressions and my ortho said he will call me. Do I wait for his call or do I call them? I've read a lot of personal blogs saying something your invisalign is just sitting at their office.. I'm just so anxious lol. Also when the clincheck is ready can your ortho make that decision without his patient?
If you have any insight I would love to hear.
Thank you
Tara three weeks is quite a short time, but if you feel comfortable phoning then do it!
The clincheck is a computerised impression of what might happen from aligner to aligner. It's the ortho that does the real job, that's why it's important to choose a person who's knowledge of how teeth move is extensive. Teeth rarely move as a computer program has been written to show ... so don't be too concerned about this. It is great to see the beginning and end though, as it can provide great motivation to see where your teeth may be when your treatment is over.
Good luck!![]()

CONGRATS TO YOU! Im sure your anxious to get them already as i am ;]
Today at 11:15 was the big day. I was just shocked at how many trays Im getting, i thought it would've been more. I have 16 U and 17 L. I have 7 attachments, 2 on the top and 5 on the bottom. I also did some stripping of my teeth in two places at the top, i found this to be the worst part. Initially it doesn't hurt but I did bleed, my teeth are packed together like sardines lol. I believe my gums got in the way? Good experience none-the-less. My top trays are so difficult to take off, I even needed assistance at the ortho. When I did take it off to eat my teeth were sore and I chewed my food like it was the first time Im eating. I do have a lisp and my close family laughs at me. My boyfriend makes me say certain words because he thinks its "cute" lol I dont mind, i laugh along. Umm my tongue is also sore at the sides due to the exploring of the trays in my mouth..
Please update on your experience Angel.
Congrats on getting the invisalign.. I'm sure you're going to find the treatment awesome so be sure to take lots of pics documenting your progress so you can see how much movement actually occurred.
Keep us posted!
I got my fasteners and trays yesterday afternoon. It was pretty much painless except when he was working around the extraction point. There were a few fasteners that had to be put on twice but they did take the 2nd time around. I have 4 on top and 6 on the bottom. Funny the bottom has so many when they can only move the front 5 teeth as behind those are bridges from the last go around with orthodontics (when I was 30). I'm very happy to have only 28 trays (14 l & u) and hope to be done this fall. My goal (hopefully my teeth will cooperate) is to be done by my birthday on Sept 1st.The trays aren't easily removed so I'm thinking this will be a good diet plan as well. I do think that will get better as my teeth move and I'll go through this with every tray swap. My speech has a bit of a lisp but nothing too major. My biggest concern is cleaning the trays. It clearly states not to use denture cleaner but I've always used efferdent to clean my retainer and mouth guard. I won't be able to stand it if they start to smell as I have read on other posts. I'm really hoping that will not become an issue. Otherwise, it's all good so far!
Dear Angel,
I smiled when I read your post, as your experience seems to parallel mine! I will have had my trays for 4 weeks as of tomorrow. I, too, was surprised at the number of trays I received (12 U/7 L, with 7 attachments), but my ortho still thinks I should be prepared for a full year of treatment (refinements and all), although I am REALLY hoping for a much shorter treatment time. This is my second go-around with braces, too, so I am already ready to be finished!
It has become second nature to remove and insert the trays now (I struggled for the first few days), and my new trays have been easier than the first tray, so I don't panic now when it is time to move on to a new tray. Still, I don't take the trays out except for 3 meals daily. I have lost a few pounds, but the best thing is that I drink so much more water than I have before. That has been good for me all the way around.
To clean my trays, I rinse them immediately upon removal, and then before putting them back on, I brush them either just with warm water or with a bit of toothpaste. Mine have never gotten yucky or smelly. I am, however, considering getting a sonic cleaner because my daughter will be getting her plastic retainer in two weeks after 20 months of metal braces, so we can share it. I have heard than many are happy using a bit of peroxide or white vinegar to keep the trays clean. I lean toward using natural cleaners as opposed to chemicals of any sort, so I am going to ask my ortho at my next appointment for his opinion as well.
Sounds like you are off to a great start!
Hi all!
Congrats on getting the Invisalign!
I am interested in Invisalign too, but in my country the cost is four times higher than braces. I cannot afford it. Is it that expensive in your country? Or just because it is still new in my country?
Dear Braced Cat,
My orthodontist charges exactly the same for regular metal braces (maybe ceramic, etc. too - but I am not sure) as he does for Invisalign. I am paying $5050.00 for Invisalign and retainers. If anything additional needs to be done (which I hope is not the case), it is included in this fee.
I have noticed that the fee for any sort of braces varies from region to region even within the United States. I live on one side of the city of Chicago and my daughter had metal braces; her friend who lives on the other side of the city was quoted a price (from multiple orthos) over $1500.00 more - with far less work to be done. Go figure.
Hi again everyone. Today is day 2 of invisalign and I'm doing well not ripping my hair out lol. My top trays are still very difficult to take off, bottoms are managable. I've been cleaning my trays with toothpaste and a soft brissel brush with cold water. I also bought some floss today and new colgate. My boyfriend reccomended crest pro-health. I hate the texture but it does an awesome job with getting clean and whitening. It's pretty cool that we all recieved our trays at the same time, we definetly can compare and give advice to each other ;].
I live in CT and my invisalign cost is 5000. I had two consultations and the first one was 6000 (yikes). My two consultations are on opposite ends of where I live so I think that's why? Who knows. The price pretty much evens out the same for tradtional and invisalign.
Congratulations on Day Two! I am going to put in my 3rd set of aligners tonight; on my Day Two I never thought I'd make it this far! Now most days I carry on without thinking too much about the aligners. I still have to admit, though, that I am VERY anxious for this process to be done. I am not such a patient person!!!
Dear Phantom Muse and Tara,
Thanks for the sharing. I think my location is the problem. The cost increases as the government adds tax, shipping cost, permit cost, etc. Importing things are quite tough in my country. Hope my ice braces do well.
Good luck with your Invisalign!
