Hi ,
I came across this website as I was looking for some more info to what to expect with braces. I am in college and will be getting the Damon system over spring break, I am happy to be getting braces but also kind of nervous. Is thier any good advice to what to do or what to expect?![]()
Hi and welcome Lance and I hope you find this forum a great source of information to help you during this time.
Please check out the many posts on here to read about the many and varied experiences people have had before beginning treatment and once treatment has started.
My advice is ... keep well hydrated as this will help your mouth cope with your new hardware. If a bracket rubs, cover it generously with wax, so your mouth can toughen without sores developing. Rinse with warm salt water to keep soothe your mouth. Follow your ortho's instruction and don't do any less or any more than is asked of you by this person. Remember that brackets don't move teeeth ... it's the skill of your ortho that does this, using archwires and maybe other equipment like elastics, powerchains, powerchords etc.
What to expect ... expect this to be much simplier than you expect. Sadly we mostly read and remember the bad stories ... but there are few of them and many more good ones!
Good luck and if you wish to keep a diary of your experiences, go to the blog section and start a blog. This is also a great place to read about the experiences of other people.![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
Hi Lance,
Welcome to this forum. The information and experience shared here help me much to release my stress and anxiety before getting braces... and also now while I'm on treatment. Hope you can learn also.
My advice is ask your ortho anything you want to know about your treatment. He/she is the one who really knows about your condition. If you are not sure about something, don't hesitate to consult and search second, third, or even fourth opinion.
Drink enough water and mind your oral hygiene. That's really important.
Once again, welcome and wishing all the best for your treatment!![]()
