Cool PLEASE help me!! Clear or Metal Damon Braces?

hi, basically am getting my braces on april 12th, after a long a tedious wait, I have very gappy teeth and now i face the desicion of whether to get clear damon braces on the top, with metal on bottom, or to have metal on top and bottom?

what would everyone recommened to me? as i really need help, as i am so confused with what to go for?
what are the pros and cons for both?
Also from past experience, what would you go for?
Also which would you recommend for gappy teeth?

If possible would be nice for people to post pictures of their damon braces on my thread, as i would perhaps like to compare the aesthetics of both, but only if that is possible

    thank you xx

    Hi Lucy
I have had the experience of having had both metal braces, and currently in Damon Clear upper and damon metal lowers. I would APSOLUTLY recommend the damon clears. They are fantastic, aesteticaly pleasing, difficult to notice, and I find that it doesnt tear the inside of my gum like the metals did. However it is a personal decision, and as long as the cost involved is either no different or minimal.

Being an ortho assistant and have worked on Damn clear and metal, I would choose metal. The clear bracket is a cheap plastic and I had to replace many brackets due to them peeling off constantly. The bracket has a "door" that hugs over your wire and the piece that keeps the door close, broke off constantly. I do think clear is more aesthetically pleasing for looks but I've had patients go way over their txmt time due to the brackets breaking off. Just a thought. If the ortho office has a ceramic (instead of plastic) clear bracket, use that instead! Good Luck!!!

um mine are damon clears but they are definitely not plastic! They are ceramic, and I have never heard anything of such. Interesting. I wonder if its perhaps a bunch of defective brackets or the first clears that came out, but honestly I have Not had a problem.

I'm not sure what bracket Leigh is referring to, but it sounds like they've had bad experiences with the damon 3 ... the half clear/half metal brackets. Damon advertised these as being a ceramic/metal combination, and the only ones I've seen, were on patients who transferred to our office and they were a ceramic/metal combination. We've always had some issues with the 'doors' of self ligating brackets, but no particular brand was any more annoying than another. It is possible that a batch were despatched without the proper quality control being performed on them ... although you'd hope this wouldn't happen.

Laura I think you're part of the group trialling the first full ceramic bracket made for damon. We've had samples sent to our office to see, but chose not to trial them. That was only about six months ago ... and it would have taken this long for the trial to get started.

Lucy ... you need to remember that brackets don't move teeth. So when it comes to orthodontics, first you need to check out some ortho's and choose the one you feel the most comfortable with. Then when it comes to choosing the bracket, you have to choose the one you like, as this is about looks, not function.

More people have choose ceramic brackets for their uppers (or both arches) due to the way they look ... and when you look at Laura's photo, I think we can see why.

    Good luck with your decision!

If you can get the clear, I would get them for their aesthetics. If you aren't concerned about how you metal braces look then I would go with whatever is more affordable. When I had braces, I had all metal and it really bothered my gums.
