    1. Gum
Your ortho office typically says no to gum, however its typically due to some types of gum being absolute NOs. Dental safe gum is sugarless, and it wont stick to your brackets. I have chewed gum both times I have had braces, with no problems.
    2. Foods
I stay away from very chewy things such as caramel and candy. However depending on where your brackets are, some things may be more difficult to eat such as hard carrots and hard granola bars for example. You will find a way around it such as for apples, you need to cut all the slices, ect.
Its not a huge lifestyle change with braces, just a litle more thinking involved.

Great looking braces though, dont you love Damon Clear?? Ihave had them for almost 2 months, and I absolutly love them!
Congrats on going ahead with treatment!

Hi and welcome to this forum!

We recommend our patients chew sugarfree gum ... the type that has written on the package that it doesn't stick to most dental work. We recommend this, as chewing helps the blood flow in your gums and some studies suggest it may help with teeth movement ... and it definitely helps most people who's teeth are tender.

Food ... you should be able to eat as you usually would. You may find that you feel better cutting your into smaller pieces, so you can chew it less. After a while, I'm sure you'll find yourself being confident enough to bite into pizza, or whatever it is you like.

Your photo looks great, although your brackets look different to the damon clear ones, although that's probably just due to the clarity of the photo. Good luck with taking great care of your mouth ... drink plenty of water, use wax on any brackets that rub and keep your oral hygiene A1. Here's to your treatment going smoothly!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I have damon clear on top and use to have metal braces back in the day (6 years ago). I chewed gum when i had braces before, but i haven't yet this time around.
As far as foods go, i avoid raw veggies, popcorn (too many hidden hard pieces in there), candy w/hard shells (m&ms etc).. Those right off the top of my head, but for the general rule, i avoid anything hard and SNEAKY lol
