Hi everyone. Her back bracket fell off!

My 11 year old is hysterical because while she was eating her back bracket on her right upper came off. She didn't swallow it or anything overly creative, it's in her hand as I write.

Her concern is that she just got these on Tuesday of this week and the ortho office is closed now until Monday morning.

I told her not to worry, she's fine until Monday......... but I'm just a mom, so I don't count. I called our regular dentist for backup reassurance, but got voice mail -

.....so I googles and found this site.

Hope someone has some life experience that convinces her shes okay until Monday.

Also, if there are other kids here I may encourage her to sign up for somewhere to connect on her new lifestyle...

is the bracket just floating on the wire or did it come off completely.. either way, no worries or emergency... Just make an appt with the ortho to get it back on asap.

Just tell her to hang on to it (put it in a ziploc bag, or something), and bring it with you to your next visit. My bracket popped off my porcelain crown a few days after I got it, and that's just what I did. (Well, mine was swinging around on my wire, so I gobbed wax on it to hold it in place.) Call them on Monday and see what they say. They may even tell you it can wait until her next appointment.

I got my new braces on Mon. and then a bracket (same place as your daughters sounds like but on the left) came off. I went to the ortho and they took it off. They said it was no big deal and they could either put it back on or wait till next appt. They'll probably tell her the same thing, so tell her not to worry about it.

This is definitely not a problem!

Often brackets come off for what is apparently no problem. Maybe her ortho told her to be careful and not eat the wrong foods that cause brackets to fall off. Many ortho's tell young people this, to help them stay away from the hard, sweet, chewy foods.

Give her ortho a call and he may choose to have her come in next week, or it may be fixed at her first adjustment.

    Good luck to your daughter!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
