hello! looking for info on Damon and other options please!

    hi all

I went to see the Chelsea dental pratice in London earlier this yr and was told the best option for me would be damon braces. I have just been for a check up tonight and been told me teeth are being worn away because of my bite so feel it's time to take action.

ideally I would like to find the clearest possible braces at the best possible price in London (or surrounding area at a push)- I'd be really keen to know the following:

I've read on here that the really clear damon braces aren't available yet in the UK- anyone know where in London is offering ceramin damons and how much you paid, was it one or both sets? (I need both sets of teeth doing)

also read that Damon is just one brand of self ligating braces- I wonder if anyone knows of other options or brands that are good?

I've ruled out invisalign and lingual braces- the dentist did discuss 6 month smile braces wih me but I since did research on the internet and it seems they don't fix your bite- which is what I need.

any help or advice on any of these issues would be great

    thanks

    Carrie

Great that you're considering having orthodontic treatment Carrie!

It's important to realise that brackets don't move teeth ... that's a marketing ploy used to try and get people to buy/use a product ... but it's not truth. Brackets are bonded to your teeth and that's where they stay and nothing happens unless your ortho uses other products and their skill to get your teeth moving. The brand means nothing, other than the re-order name/number for orthodontists. Of course brands mean heaps to the people who have to market them and they use many tactics to sell more than the next person. So it's not possible that one 'brand' of bracket can move teeth better than another or is better for a person than another, as brackets don't move teeth.

There are many different types of ceramic brackets and the best one for you will be the one your ortho uses. It's recommended that people consult with three or more ortho's and compare treatment plans and treatment styles, before making a decision as to which is the best for you.

Good luck with having some more consults and please post any questions you have on this site!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

You need to ask your ortho if you can have clear brackets on both the top and bottom teeth - many orthos (including mine) won't put clear on the bottom, because the hard ceramic can chip teeth and cause permanent damage. In which case, you're looking at metal on the bottom and ceramic on top.

I have InOvation C brackets (clear) on top and there's a post about them in the Damon forum below somewhere, where I've listed the pros and cons of them.

    HTH
Bonded retainers fitted upper and lower & braces removed at 19 months 2 weeks.

    Braces were:

    In-Ovation C on the top
    Damon on the bottom
