Braces put on abroad, will they be worked upon for the duration of my treatment?

    Hey everyone!
Not long ago, I got my braces abroad, and i'm just wondering whether or not there are orthodontists that would/could continue my treatment back home (North America). I was given all of my supplies, so I have all the wires that I will need throughout my treatment.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
Or am I out of luck?
    Thanks in advance!

Backflip contact a few ortho's and ask them. You may find that you have to pay quite a bit and they may not use all the supplies you were given, but hopefully you'll find someone happy to treat you!

    Good luck!

I'm in your situtation... but I've been quite unlucky so far. I've seen 2 doctors who took me in, but I didn;t feel they were answering my questions. Yhey looked very busy all the time. Then I decided to try another one who's got 30 yrs experience and awards and is close to work. So, this is what happened. Can anyone advise?

Today I went to see a different orthodontist and he told me that for the treatment to be effective I should remove the current braces and apply new ones (his type). Basicaly pay for my braces all over again.

He explained why this is important... but I'm not very comfortable. he said that because my braces are different than what he would normally apply, then I would have a problem as the treatment progresses. Also, he said that the way some braces were applied is wrong and this is why my teeth are moving in an unexpected way...

Can anyone advise! I'm supposed to return tomorrow to get this done (meaning... pay again!)

Thank yoou so much in advance.

Pat if you're having doubts, please don't go ahead with this person. You need to keep consulting until you find someone you can trust.

If an ortho has been trained in the use of a particular brand, they may not feel confident to use other brands. This doesn't happen often, but it does happen and it means that if you choose a person like this, you will have to pay more to have your brackets removed and replaced.

Good luck with finding the right ortho for you!
