Damon questions for a new member

Day 6, next appt 7 weeks from application.

If the Damon system doesn't use elastics, why are there hooks on 4 of the brackets? The ones on my upper canines stick out quite far and my lip gets stuck on them.
Also, do the Damon Clear protrude more than the steel? I'm thinking of switching, if the steel have a smaller profile.
How resistant are the Clear to staining?
Is it normal to not have the teeth polished immediately prior to application? I had thought this was the norm, but wasn't done for me.

Hi and welcome Bailey

ortho's who use these brackets use elastics the same as any ortho will. If you need elastics to help the archwire fix your teeth, you will need them no matter what type of brackets you have. If a hook is annoying, put a generous 'glob' of wax on it, until your mouth toughens.

The brackets should protude the same amount, as in most cases you will have both the metal and ceramic brackets on the same arch. The damon brackets are higher off the tooth than most brackets, but most people adjust quite quickly!

Ceramic brackets will not stain!

Having your teeth polished is up to the patient and is something they need to visit their dentist to have done. We ask our patients to have a full dental check and clean before their bonding appointment. With most adults we also require them to meet with a perio and have their report forward to us.
