Newbie adult with braces...

Hi, I am 44 and just got my top braces removed. Bottoms were put on at a later date so still have some time with those. I'm desperately wondering if there is anyone else out there who hated the clear retainer? I just got mine yesterday because everyone said how wonderful they were...well, I really can't stand having my teeth covered like they are, feels weird!!! I called my ortho today to schedule an appointment to get the regular wire retainer..I'm sure that this will be uncomfortable too, but at least my teeth aren't covered. The clear retainer also seems to hold a bunch of saliva which looks disgusting to me. Just wondering what anyone else thought.

I wore the clear retainer full time for a while, I was OK with it. Just a matter of getting used to it. I don't remember saliva being an issue, though.

Suz... I just started doing the Essix retainers today and I found that I had the same problem....the retainer does not fit my two front teeth perfectly and the spit collects at the bottom...not very nice looking!!! On the up side, I do like the feel of the smooth plastic compared to the feel of braces. Sorry that I don't have a solution to the problem, but at least you now know that you aren't the only one with it!

It just takes time to get used to. Just like after taking your braces off it will feel weird for a while.
