    Should I get braces?

Hi I'm a boy and is 17 this year. Well, my teeth are basically straight just that my front teeth is a little out. Reason being, I accidentally knocked onto the push up bar and the bottom of my top right front teeth was a little deformed. As it was just a little deformed and it did not actually affect my appearance when I smiled, so I didn't care about it. However, I realized that it was a little crooked now, it's like pushing out. Hmm, it is not very obvious when I smile but I'm afraid it will become more crooked as time passes, because it wasn't like this when that incident occurred.

I went to my regular dentist and asked if I should receive an orthodontic treatment, she said it's optional and it's up to my own decision. Okay, so subsequently, I went to an orthodontist. The orthodontist said that it is possible for me to get braces as my top row is actually covering my bottom row of teeth( I think it's an overbite after doing some researches online, and I didn't know there is such thing as an overbite or underbite before the consultation). I need to have 2 teeth extracted and it will take around 1.5-2years if I were to get braces.( she said most probably more than 1.5year because of my bone structure and my teeth is very strong or something like this) She also claimed that I will look better. She asked me to decide and to book an appointment if I decide to do it.

So what do you guys think? Should I get them? Should I trust my orthodontist that I will look better?( Did she say that because she wanted to earn money?) I know I am being indecisive but I always wanted perfect teeth. However, I don't know if the braces worth the money and time or even the period I've to suffer. Moreover, I'm afraid I might get gaps in between the teeth after the treatment because that is what has happened to my cousin. My cousin's teeth was quite straight but she insisted on receiving treatment to look better. Now, her face does look better but there are some gaps in between.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

I decided to get braces Jan. of last year. I knew since I was younger that I did need but never wanted them. Over the years, I started becoming self conscious about 1 crooked tooth. I also had a severe overbite. So, I told my dentist one day that I wanted braces. He didn't think I needed them, but I decided to go against him and get them anyway. I got them April of last year, had my overbite fixed in May of this year, and I'm due to get them off in Nov. It's a descision that I'll never regret. I have a beautiful smile now and everyone thinks I look so good.

If you get braces, you will most likely have some small gaps form, but they will close up over time if the orthodontist knows what he's doing. I also suggest talking to 2-3 orthos before making up your mind.

    Best of luck to you!

I'm 14 and a girl and my teeth were REALLY bad and I don't regret getting braces at all. I got removable brace top row in Jan and then another one in July and then in September I got bottom train track and in October top train track. I think the pain is worth it considering how bad my teeth were if I didn't get braces I would hate myself for not taking the opportunity but since your dentist didn't recommend you to get them it might make them worse, like your cousin since there teeth were ok and then they wanted to make them better it was really there own fault for changing something good. It's up to you thought it's not my mouth.

I have got on this CRAZY brace train but wheres my stop?
