Feels like my teeth have high heels!

Hello, I'm 36 and got my upper self-ligating braces 6 weeks ago. My lower ones went on two days ago. I'm so grateful I ot 6 weeks to get used to just the top ones, now I have to get used to the lower ones plus the molar buildups, which makes me feel like I have high heels in my mouth (weird but it's hard to explain). I have no trouble eating (had steak quesadillas today), but I constantly feel like biting down really hard on something, I guess this is how teething babies feel. I can't help but to grind on my buildups. In general the worst part have been the canker sores, I used to get them without braces anyway, but now they are rampant! Anyway, it's nice to have this space to share this experience!

Hi, welcome to the forum. I never heard of self-ligating braces, I'll have to look that up. Nice to meet you!

I guess it is another name for Damon, or speed braces. One of my molar build ups fell off, and it felt so much better and not crooked at all, so I begged my ortho to let me keep it off. Right now I'm in sooo much pain due to a massive canker sore on my bottom lip, looks like a moon crater. My lip is swollen, looks like my husband beat me, horrible. Sorry for the whining, hope to have beautiful teeth at he end

Hi Mimi, I get canker sores all the time so i know how you feel. Try using the wax on the bracets around your canker sore and they wont hurt so much when they rub. I had one thats finally going away but it's on the inside left hand corner of my lip. It made both top and bottom lip swell plus I couldn't open my mouth fully and yawning was insanly painful!

I heard that have salt water rinses are supposed to help. They have never helped me any I usually just have to suffer throught the pain but give it a try maybe that will help you. Good Luck

Hi Sassee, I have always had canker sores, even before braces, but of course now they are worse. It's the only painful part of having braces. I have a whole arsenal of OTC and prescription stuff, with this one nothing helps, I just have to suffer through it, although today it feels slightly better, so I think it's finally on it's way out. I hear now they can laser them out in 10 minutes, but no dentists near me have such technology yet.

I have had the issue all my life too. I have never heard of them being lasered out. Hmmm i am going to have to look into that, thanks.

Glad to hear its getting better. Mine is almost gone to, I can yawn without cringing in pain.
