Day 5 of Invisalign and having some issues

    Hi,

I received upper and lower Invisalign trays on Jan. 4th and I am still experiencing a great deal of discomfort due to the pressure from the upper trays. I realize that I am a tough case with 7 buttons on the top and 5 buttons on the bottom, but the discomfort seems extreme. In addition, the upper tray split over a button and I will have to contact the dentist tomorrow for a replacement. Removing the upper tray is difficult because of the tightness and I think it tore when I took it out. Does this happen often? Also, I seem to have excess saliva when wearing the trays and there are little water bubbles between my teeth and the trays. Is this common?

    Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would speak to your dentist tomorrow when you call about the split in your tray. Usually by day 3 I may feel slight pressure and maybe tenderness but no pain. I was told up front you shouldn't experience pain with these, just pressure and maybe discomfort when they are new.
Re: the split - this does happen especially around attachments. Luckily I've only had one tray that this occurred on and I found a different motion to remove the trays and haven't had any split since...
Re: excess saliva - this does get better. I had big problems when I first started and believe others have too. Your mouth is getting used to something all new and will eventually adjust. It may take a few more days.
Best of luck on your new "journey". It's definitely a challenge, but well worth it. I'm on tray set 18 and no longer have a huge gap between my top front teeth which I've had since I was very young. My overjet and overbite are also greatly decreased and overall I find myself more confident and smile more than I did before.

Thank you so much for responding. I feel much better about the split and will definitely discuss my other issues when I speak to the dentist today.

    Thumbs up I can relate...

    Hello,

I just started my invisalign treatment also...I am on day 4...trays 1 of 24 U and L. The feeling I have experienced is mild pressure...less pain than what I expected (I took 2 tylenol on day 1 and that was it!). But from what I hear, levels of pressure and pain can vary from tray to tray and that the pain usually does subside after a few days.

I actually just contacted my Ortho about the salivation, I have that issue also. He said that is normal and will decrease in the next couple of days...it's my mouth trying to adjust to the "foreign object" in it.

I had traditional metal braces about 15 years ago and can honestly say...Invisalign is a much better experience hands down. Enjoy your journey...smooth sailing to you!
