20 Years old with braces :(

Hi everyone! my names Nadia and im 20. I just got ceramic braces on my top teeth.
My upper right central and upper right lateral are crooked so i feel really self conscious when i smile and will only take a picture from my right, as from the left my front tooth sticks out. ive been wanted to get it fixed since i was 15 so i decided to get them straightened now. Im dreading to see everyones reaction to them as everyone said i didnt need them in the first place, but i felt like i needed them.
Ive been told i have to wear them for a year but understand why it would take so long. Ive read a lot on the internet and seen people with bad teeth have amazing progress after as little as a month.
Just wondered if anyone knows if it is possible to have them on for less time?

Its my 4th day of wearing them and they really hurt! no one told me that before I got them lol been eating loads of soup and jelly since that seems to be the only thing that doesnt hurt.

I am 41 years old with invis. braces

I was 22 when i had metal braces. I wore the metal braces only for 1 year and they moved back within 4 years, hence why i am back to invsi. braces at my age. please dont worry it will go quick. when i look back i wish i had them on longer.

Me too! I only smiled on one side. People I am sure got annoyed when I would ALWAYS switch sides.

Seems to be a common issue with orthodontists. They must be desensitized for "forget" to mention it. Or, maybe they never had them in the first place so they couldn't tell ya.

yeh ive gotten a bit more used to them now. went to work today and all the costumers were really nice and no one stopped and said whats that on your teeth!?! like i expected lol
the only problem is now my ligatures have gone fluorescent yellow! i called my old orthodontist as i need to find another one as ive moved and she said i can fix them myself with the rubbers she gave me.
Does anyone know how to do it? i dont want to fumble along without knowing what to do in case i break something.
i know all my friends just looked at me weirdly when i would turn around or tell them to switch with me because i have a "good side"

Braces @ 34 here. And the regular old metal kind at that! I wasn't offered anything else. I guess I was naive to think that they were going to make sure I had all the knowledge required to make the right decision for me!

It took a lot of getting used to and it was really, really painful at first. They say it hurts a lot more for adults and it must because I was treated as if I was being a baby every time I said it hurt. People kept saying their kids never make a peep about their braces, like "What's your problem anyway?? Shut up and quit complaining!"

I'm ok with everything now but I sure am hoping time flies, I am so ready to have these things be HISTORY!

lmao im exactly the same! they told me it would only hurt when i had them tightened but im a week from having my first adjustment and they have started hurting again! And they always compare me to kids and how t hey never complain. there teeth are hardly grown in so thats probably why it doesnt hurt them as much!

Had my braces on for about 5 weeks now and i noticed they this morning theyve already started to straighten. Made me really excited and im happy i had them done now. Stopped caring about everyone else reaction tbh =]

Nobody said it would be easy, and in fact, it DOES cause some discomfort- but, there are TONS of posts here that are sure to help you out every step of the way. If you're experiencing it, somebody here has already been there, done that, and posted about it LOL! I am very fortunate to have the progress that I have had with my braces in just a few months. Almost ALL cases are going to take a yr or more...but think about it- we live to be what, 70, 80, 100 these days? Wearing braces for ONE or TWO of those isn't so bad. It'll drag out at first, and you'll never see the light at the end of the tunnel- but I assure you, time will keep on tickin, you'll be done, and well, others will begin the process. Evolution.

If they're hurting, they're moving- and if they're moving... you're that much closer to a perfect smile Congrats and enjoy the ride!!

I'm a (very vain) 26 year old singer and I couldn't be happier that I'm finally doing this! I would still be doing it if I was 101 because you're never too old to feel your best right? Just think you are only 20 years old now and by the time you are 22 you will have a beautiful new smile for the rest of your life.... small price to pay

Just got back from my first adjustment and the ortho told me i can be getting them off anywhere between 3-6 months!! made me so happy! my teeth werent that bad to start with, only two teeth had to be straightened and then all of them moved slightly to the right in order for my bite to be better so i didnt see how this could take a year when i was already seeing a lot of improvement after just a month! and he told me it wont be that long! SO HAPPY
yehh im really vain but ive come to realise im doing it to improve myself so if i get bad remarks towards them then the people giving them arent worth my time =]
