Overbite after braces

Ive had braces for 1.5 years and just took them off. After braces i still can tell i have a overbite and the orthodontics says it is and forcably tells me at "least" it improved a bit. I was very disappointed with the results. When i first went in for the consultation he told me that i have a overbite and i will have a normal perfect bite after braces and he will be able to push in my top jaw to normal standards...that's why i went with this doctor. However, after 6 months he tells me that he will be only be able to push it back 2 mm (if im lucky) from the 4 mm that it was protruding with the use of a headgear. So i asked if surgery will fix it. He tells me that surgery is out of the question. now this left me in a hard place and a wall. So basically according to him, if im lucky i will have an overbite of 2mm instead of a 4mm. With all that drama the end result is my top teeth protruding from the normal bite and my bottom jaw looks way too small. Everytime i visit him he just says some bull about how i look so much better but nothing to improve it and im not very happy with the results.

Also he didn't put braces on the bottom teeth because "the top is crowding over it". My bottom teeth also is pushed out so the top teeth touches the bottom. Now the top is not crowding the bottom and i asked him if he's going to put the braces on the bottom. He said that if he does straighten the bottom it will look like that i will have a big overbite. Now that really confused me because he told me that i had a normal bite and that the top was just protruding out.

So my question is should i consult a different doctor or go back to my current doctor and ask for maxillofacial surgeon or whatever he can do to improve it? The only reason i would even consider going back to my current doctor is because i put in so much money for the damn braces and the cost will be significantly lower. If money wasn't an issue I would go to another doctor in a heartbeat. On a side note my current orthodontist has really bad teeth (lol, i knew i shouldve trusted my instincts :/ )

YOu should defintely get some consulatations with a new ortho that specialize in underbites and overbites. They ususally are able to do a lot of movement with just braces, but in severe cases work with a surgeron that they recommend. You may need surgery on your lower jaw to bring it forward however braces may just work if the ortho knows the tricks of teh trade.

Good Luck!
