Hi.

My brother had the same problem and had braces on for 7 months, had surgery, and then braces on for 10 months.

THe cost in US was 5,000 per jaw and in my brothers case he needed both jaws shifted... you may only need your lower jaw brought back or upper jaw brough forward.

Convert 10,000 US to your currency...

Good Luck!!!

Info from Florida - things I have learned - Orthognathic

Hi. Ortho will change your appearance slightly, usually always for the better. Pretty much everyone who is a candidate for orthognathic surgery and goes through with it is very pleased with the results. To get a cost in India, you should visit at least two orthognathic surgeons and get quotes and see what they recommend - one jaw or two, etc. If your case is that severe, it will probably be both jaws as this will keep your facial balance better, but see what they say. Without seeing a few pictures of you, it is difficult to say. When you say severe, how far forward would they have to bring your top jaw to be properly aligned with your lower jaw in a slight overbite position? I would consider severe to be at least 10 millimeters. Here in the US some health insurance companies (some PPO plans) cover the procedure if you need at least a 5mm or greater correction, otherwise it is quite expensive. Braces are required here, so add that to your cost over there too and expect those to be one for 12-24 months, assuming your teeth are not perfectly straight.

Find out how often on average the surgeon does orthognathic ... is it every week, every month, a few each year? My orthognathic surgeon performs this operation every week with a co-surgeon. Both jaws take about 4 hours with the two surgeons, fyi. Also, find out how long your surgeon has been doing orthognathic - the one I chose has been doing this for well over 10 years. Also ask if they will wire you shut or use rigid fixation - in the old days they would wire you shut for 6-8 weeks. Your surgeon should not have to wire you shut if he know what he is doing.

Good luck and definitely have the procedure - you will not regret it! ... but find a good surgeon to do it.
