    New Section?

I have realized that many people who want to get braces turn to forums like this one for stories and experiences of having braces. I think we need some sort of "motivation for getting braces" or "why get braces" section for non-members to look at for inspiration to take the step in getting braces. Members of this forum would each share their own inspiration/motivation or personal reasons as to why they would get braces.

    Just a thought

Good suggestions 18monther. but these topics are covered by most people in their blogs and in the introduction section.

What about....a "General" Forum. Isn't that a standard for most forums to talk about off topic or dental related stuff (i.e breaking news: average price for braces have gone down for 2010" or "link to youtube of a patient's personal video blog about his/her treatment." I believe this miscellaneous forum or some new added section will make this forum more community friendly rather than a straight up questions and answer website. Nothing wrong with that but we need more substance.

Good sugggestions but there are other forums for different topics. I've been apart of many forums that have become derailed when they go off topic. Many have become large quickly, but have had to be closed many times to get control back. I was a moderator for another popular orthodontic forum that was like this and the webmaster has often had to get rid of posters and close the forum due to 'off topic' problems.

You can link to your personal blog and your you tube info via your signature and by using the blog feature of this forum.

Breaking news related to dental issues can be discussed in the current forums, just pick the one that suits what the breaking news is about. Forums with too many sub forums, often become complicated and confusing.

I hope with more posts you'll find that this forum isn't just a question and answer website and by using the blog section to follow your ortho treatment, it's a good way to follow your journey.

Remember don't post personal information, or pictures that show more than your mouth, as it's important to keep this a safe and useful place for people having orthodontic treatment.

I realise this is an 'old' thread, but because it's the Suggestions & Feedback Forum I thought it would be better to just reply in a related topic rather than start a new one.

Anyway, I was thinking about a section relating to general dental stuff. Like for asking questions relating to oral hygiene, certain dental products (like floss, mouthwash, toothpaste etc maybe you are having a problem with something and want some advice on how others use it etc)... a section where people can ask these sorts of questions when they are not necessarily related to the braces the person is wearing (but I do understand this is a braces website, it's just all this type of stuff comes into it).

I understand that if you are a person in fixed braces and have a question to do with toothpaste you could always post your thread in the 'Traditional Braces' section, but it might just be a general toothpaste question that isn't actually directed at the type of braces the person is wearing... And maybe sometimes people with a different type of brace don't frequent other areas of the forum? so they might miss out on getting/offering advice in that kind of thread because it was in a section not related to them (for example, some Invisalign wearers might not bother to check the Traditional Brace part of the forum and vice versa).

Just an idea. Maybe there aren't many people on the Forum who will want to ask about dental products/oral hygiene etc... then I guess it would be pointless for a new section

I must admit, I often visit the 'General' section of most Forums I am a member of, but only friendly forums... I find some forums on the net can get a bit over the top in a General section and it can end up a little crazy.

Just visited that other popular orthodontic forum (archwired) and they have a General Forum section which picks up on random stuff e.g. cookbooks, recipes, etc. plus quite a neat section on dental stuff e.g. floss, toothbrushes, etc. that braces wearers and others can relate to. Just a thought.
