Study of Listerine and Orthodontic Health

Objective: To test the null hypothesis that adding Listerine mouthrinse to the standard oral hygiene regimen has no added benefit for orthodontic patients in maintaining proper oral health ...
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Here's the part we REALLY care about (and can actually UNDERSTAND...LOL):

    • Adding Listerine to the daily oral hygiene regimen reduces plaque and gingivitis development in orthodontic patients over a 6-month period.
    • As fixed orthodontic appliances may cause enamel decalcification because of plaque accumulation around the bracket base, it is recommended that orthodontists instruct their patients to rinse twice a day with 20 mL of Listerine in addition to brushing and flossing.

I say AWESOME!!! I've been adding listerine to my fluoride rinse since getting my brackets put on, since listerine is ALL I used prior to braces. Hope this means there will be NO white spots!!

We give bottles of Listerine Tooth Defence with Fluoride, to all our patients. I find it has quite a bite, but it does make my mouth feel good.

At the moment I'm using a rinse (with fluoride) for sensitive teeth in the morning and the Listerine Tooth Defence with Fluoride, at night.

I agree ... here's to our teeth remaining strong and healthy during treatment, and of course for ever after that!
