    InVu and Nu-Edge Brackets

    Hi

I've had three consults and one ortho uses the Nu-Edge ceramic brackets and InVu metal ones.

Both look nice and felt good when I rubbed them with my finger.

Is anyone wearing these? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks Adu

These are the brackets I have Adu.

    Here's there web site.

I've found the brackets very easy to get used to and they're easy to clean and make adjustments quick and comfortable.

A plus for the newer ceramic brackets, is they're as easy to remove as the stainless ones. I've had a few of the InVu brackets repositioned and the removing of the bracket was the same as for the Nu-Edge ... painfree. The removing of the bonding agent isn't so sweet for a tooth that's moving, but that's another story, and the bonding agent is the same for all brackets ... no matter what they're made of.

I definitely can recommend these brackets, but my main recommendation is to find a ortho you can communicate well with. Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

    Thanks Sunny.

I've spent time on the nu-edge website you gave and I've made second appointments with ortho 1 and 3. So I've narrowed from three to two. Both appointments are this week, so I'm hoping by next Friday I'll have made my decision and then the games can begin.

    Thanks Adu

Hi - I am new here, I also post on the Arch Wired website. I just had an extraction 2 weeks ago, and am due for my separators next week, and getting braced May 10. Getting cold feet - but I gotta go through with it.

I have reasonably straight teeth but my bite is way off and I have suffered from TMJD pain in the past due to the big shift in my bite over the fast few years. So I feel it is important to fix it.

I've gone back and forth about ceramics and metal - I want ceramic due to esthetics - but struggle with concern over ligature stains. I know certain colors are better then others and I gotta watch what I eat. I also am concerned about ceramic profile vs. metal but I will probably go with ceramics.

ANYWAY - I giggle when I see folks post the Nu-edge and Invu websites, because my ortho is pictured on there - soooo obviously Invus are what I am getting.

Glad to see you are happy with yours Sunny - because they are all my ortho uses - - he is not a fan of self ligating.

I was wondering why you went with metal on bottom and not ceramic on bottom? Any other comments about the Invus or any pics to share??

    Thks!

No actually the invu's are ceramic and the nu edge are cobalt chromium:

"InVu ceramic brackets are injection molded for exceptional strength and smoothness, with friction values that are comparable to Nu-Edge cobalt chromium brackets.

More can be read about Invu here InVu-Ortho.com
    and here InVu » Home

    "Do many orthos carry them?"

I'm not sure - - bet you could call their customer service # to find out if there is an ortho in your area.

It was what was recommended by my ortho and I didn't really care what brackets where used top or bottom. The recommendation was due to concerns that as my bite corrected, my teeth may come into contact with the lower brackets. When this happens there is a risk of the teeth chipping. So far this hasn't happened, but I guess my ortho wanted to be sure.

iluvmydog I'm sure you'll be happy with the brackets, they comfortable and the colour is really nice. A question for your ortho with regard to staining, check if you can visit the office between adjustments, if your ligs are stained and you want fresh ones. Many ortho's allow this.

    Good luck!

Mike the people who market these brackets claim they are wide spread. I agree with iluvmydog ... make contact to find out. Also I recommend you choose an orthodontist you can communicate easily with ... not for the brackets they offer.

    Hi Sunny -

Are you on Arch Wired as well? There is a Sunny on there with ceramics too.

    >It was what was recommended by my ortho and I didn't really care what brackets where used top or bottom.

I figure if I am gonna be in these things for 18 months or more - I want to be sure the ortho uses brackets that I am comfortable with.
I live in an area where there are many, many well qualified orthos - so choosing the one for me based on recommendations, general
personality and comfort level and overall treatment plan affords me many choices.

    > A question for your ortho with regard to staining, check if you can visit the office between adjustments, if your ligs are stained and you want fresh ones. Many ortho's allow this.

My ortho schedules all his adult/ceramic patients for adjustments every 3 weeks so ligs can be kept fresh looking.

Great that you're researching what you want and the different orthodontists in your area iluvmydog. The reason I wasn't concerned, was that the orthodontist I chose to treat me, was such a positive and warm person, that I was confident that what he chose for me would be right.

Wow ... appointments every three weeks ... great for ligs, so you've no reason to
struggle with concern over ligature stains
... as it sounds like there'll not be much chance of this happening, and if it does, you'll have new ligs very quickly.

The only other forum I'm a member of, is a gardening design/house building one. It's great, especially during these times of drought.

Really? Seems to me folks mention ligs staining right after they eat one 'bad' meal - such as a meal with tomato sauce or curry, or eating ketchup or drinking coffee.

Does it take a week or two of buildup to occur?

What color ligs do you typically go with on your Invu ceramics? Also - are there different colored Invu ceramic brackets based on the color of your teeth? Or is it just one color for all?

iluvmydog staining does seem to vary ... it depends on the ligs, there are clear, white, tooth coloured, pearl, and others that have been designed for the person wearing ceramic brackets. Some stain more quickly than others and some remain stained longer than others. Most appear to stain quickly due to yellow and red foods, with tea and coffee usually taking a little longer to dull the ligs, although that may also depend on the strength of the brew. Staining is frustrating for the wearing, but mostly other people do not appear to notice.
What color ligs do you typically go with on your InVu ceramics?
Whatever the assistants put on. I often try new shades, combinations of shades and rainbows.

There is only one shade that I know of.

Thanks - I've spoken to the assistant a lot about ligs already. She seems very patient about trying a variety of options. I know he has clear and tooth colored - and then ofcourse the actual colored ligs.
