    Broken Back Bracket

    Hi all!

I just got some train tracks fitted about two weeks ago - they're the sapphire ones and all's going pretty well, except, about a week ago, one broke.

The back top right metal one (it seems to hold the wire in), came off completely. It s not hurting me or anything like that but I'm worried that now the brace won't be working on the top? I don't know what the end metal bits do.... I had a quad helix expander on for about 8 months before this to expand my upper bite and I don't want them to go back to where they were!

My ortho said that I will be fine and can even trim the excess wire myself if I want to (she said i could also go in f i want, but it's not causing me any bother so i've just left it for now).

Anyway, enough rambling - any advice would be much appreciated!

    Kerry

it's best to go to your ortho anyways! You want faster treatment, eh? So it is best to get it fixed even if it's not bothering you.

    Hi and welcome Kerry.

Great you've contacted your ortho and been told all is fine ... and as this is the professional caring for you, then I'm sure it will.

It sounds like a buccal molar tube has come off, and one of it's main jobs is to hold the end of the archwire. The archwire will still be working in all the brackets it's attached to, and the main concern with a loose archwire, is that it may stab you and cause a sore spot. If this happens, either trim it yourself, or call into your ortho's office and get the wire trimmed.

    Good luck with your treatment!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I agree with Sunny here. Unless the untrimmed wire is troubling you, then this should be fine left until your next appointment - you should feel assured of this, since I am quite sure your orthodontist is not interested in prolonging your treatment unnecessarily!

Thanks all! The wire's not bothering me at all and as long as the wire is still working on the other teeth that's the only thing that i was worried about. Thanks for reassuring me!
