My pictures inside. Braces or surgery?

Ok, here are my pics. Please tell me what you think because I'm going a little bit crazy over this. Ok, not too crazy...but crazy enough to have my screenname be Piggie. For crying out loud.
Anyway, I was just thinking that maybe I won't need surgery, maybe I can avoid it. I definitely do think my jaws aren't the most properly aligned but maybe it isn't so bad, if only I could straighten out my teeth, my front upper teeth as you can see could definitely use some improvement. And if rubber bands could help with the jaw just a weee biiit...ok, please reassure me that you don't think surgery is needed. If you think it is...well go ahead anyway, be honest. I tried to push the lower jaw as far back as possible. Hence the very torture looking facial expression. Ouch. Nasty.
    Here are the pictures.

Piggie the photos don't show much to be wrong with your teeth. Maybe it's just the angles, but they look good and the relationship is probably ok, especially since you state you've pushed your lower jaw back.

Talk to some orthodontist's and find out what they thing may be needed to achieve the result you want.

    Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I would say braces for sure... With a good orthodontist, he could work with the spaces on the bottom to bring the teeth tightly together and then elastics to fix a midline and other bite issues.

I would get several consultations, but avoid surgery...

Definitely have some consultations to see what's possible. Be sure that you ask a lot of questions about what is possible, and the pros and cons of different courses of treatment. Of course, I am not a dental professional, but depending what else is going on that we can't see, it may or may not be possible to correct your bite completely by orthodontia alone. So make sure that you understand what sort of results you would get from different treatment options (whether there would be anything that could not be completely corrected), how stable the results would be, etc.

    Piggie,

I am an Orthodontist practicing in NYC. It is very admirable of you to put pictures of your teeth on the website. Surgery might be needed for many things besides just pushing your lower jaw back, which doesn’t look like you need from your pictures. There are many treatment plans out there that could involve surgery or combination of braces to achieve the desired effect. Even if you do need surgery for the best result sometimes it is possible to get an improved situation with braces alone (even if it is not ideal). You should not worry about needing something before having a consultation with an orthodontist to know what the problems are and what options you have.

I hope that you find this helpful.
