Emma,
I am not sure what you are referring to by "invisible". If the debate is between clear ceramic fixed braces vs. metal fixed braces, it's really a wash - the skill of the orthodontist is what matters. If the debate is between Invisalign vs. fixed braces, then it's true that there are some types of movement that Invisalign cannot accomplish as effectively as fixed braces, and some that Invisalign cannot really manage at all. Fixed braces will always give the orthodontist more and better control over the movement of the teeth. However, for suitable cases, Invisalign can achieve good results too.
If the debate is about Invisalign vs. fixed, here are a few of the pros and cons beyond their efficacy:
Invisalign allows you to eat and to clean your teeth unhindered, but requires dedication on the part of the patient to keep up the 20 - 22 hours/day of required wear. When the aligners are in the mouth, you are not supposed to eat or drink anything excelt cool water.
Fixed braces are a bit more of an encumbrance to eating and cleaning the teeth, but people do quickly adapt and this becomes less of an issue; unlike Invisalign, you can eat/drink any time you want, and with appropriate care, most adults can still consume even foods on their ortho's "no-no" lists. Tends to cause chafing a little more than Invisalign, but this is easily managed with dental wax, and for most patients is something that lasts only a couple of weeks.
Both types can cause a little lisping initially, but you quickly adapt to them.
