Impossible to say with any certainty. But it's certainly a possibility. I found that class ii elastics worn 24/7 tended to exacerbate my night grinding, and hence to discomfort in the jaw joint (the TMJ) and the jaw muscles.
I have been diagnosed with TMJ and I have several clicks and pops on both sides. I get headaches when my ears get cold and I can feel obvious tightening when I chew too much. I've had this for years andwhen I gett braces soon, I'll eventually have to wear elastics to fix my bite and overbite and such. Does these cause any stress on the jaw that would lead to even more TMJ pain for a while? I can't imagine having something hold my jaw into place when it already has so much stress on it on a day to day basis. I can't imagine that feeling too well for me.

I am not a dental professional.
As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.
