Give your ortho a call. I did not wear down my build-ups anywhere near so fast (even though I too am a night grinder) but perhaps my doc uses different materials ... I dunno. Anyway, as I said, you should give him a call so that he can take appropriate action, since that clearly does need to be propped open for a while.

hi ashley...my ortho uses the blue glue, too, and no..grinding it down like that should NOT happen, I don't think. This stuff is pretty strong, so you must be a very hard grinder. I'm more concerned about that than your teeth touching again...so please do like Zoso said and call your ortho, tell him what's going on, and also ask him for something that can help you with the grinding. I'm not knowledgeable about that kind of stuff, but I know there's got to be something out there for a braces wearer that's similar to a mouth guard or whatever. I'm really hoping this can help you because if you're grinding this much with the glue dots on, how much worse will it be on your bare teeth? You might grind them all the way down after so long!!

Good luck and let us know how it goes. AND, please call your ortho ASAP, don't wait until your next appt.

Yes, I absolutely agree! Explore with him whether there is anything you can wear that would not negatively impact your treatment, but that would help protect your teeth whilst you are in braces.

And once you're to the point where you are discussing retainers, you may want to explore a professionally made nightguard for night time wear - it will hold your teeth as well as a retainer, but would not get worn out quickly - if grinders get Essix style retainers, they tend to wear through them in a short time, and of course a Hawley retainer would not protect your teeth from wear.
