12 hours since braces went on

Its been 12 hours so far since I had my braces put on for the second time. Aside from needing wax I don't have any pain. I can't remember how long it took for the soreness to kick in but I'm guessing I probably should be ok with this 1st wire right?
It feels so weird with them on. My 4yr old giggles when he sees me smile and my 7yr old says I look like I'm 13. Nice huh?
Anyway so my ortho suggested I just go with traditional braces. The tops were put on today and I get the bottoms done in a few months.

Hopefully you'll have no pain or discomfort ... the modern archwires, are about taking good care of our gums and the roots of our teeth, by moving teeth slowly and consistenly ... this really does help heaps with comfort.

The archwire you have now will be to get your teeth to align, and they do the majority of the hard work, so here's to you feeling comfortable and you seeing progress soon!

Take good care of your mouth!

Hi---that first month was my roughest...like Sunny said, that first wire is the one that does the rotating and shifting so everything can get going. My teeth moved so quicky, my ortho was amazed but he also said he could tell how much pain I had had, by the amount of shifting. By my first adjustment 8 weeks later... it got easier ...then at my second adjustment this week, he said I am going to have a harder month this go around as he gave me stronger wires top and bottom.
My kids love that I have them also, my then 4 year old ( has since turned 5) told everyone in her pre-school that day that her mommy has braces (I came direct from my ortho's office to pick her up, so really brand new in braces) At this point I hadn't even been home to stare at them in the mirror and here I was having to run into everyone with my excited daughter's announcement!!! My 7 year old thinks they are cool and can't wait to get his on.. He'll be getting them at 8 1/2. My 11 year old is my coach, she got hers on at 8 and got them off at 10....so I ask her tons of questions!! LOL
They are sweet, they tell me I look pretty all the time (bless their hearts) so on my down days when I feel braced out--they always cheer me up!!!
Good luck on your journey...I am so glad I did this, best thing I could have done!

    Hi Davanie,

Congrats on getting braced! I too am in braces for the second time. My teeth were the most sore from about 6 to 8 hours after banding until about 3 days later both times, so the fact that you haven't had much pain so far is a promising sign. As Sunny and Candy said, the first wire does a lot of the aligning and leveling work, so you will hopefully see noticeable changes soon.

    Good luck!

    Thanks for responding everyone.
Well it's been a day and a half since my braces were put on and I have no pain. I can feel my teeth shifting already which is surprising. I guess I didn't think it would happen so fast. Now when I bite down I can feel some teeth on top rubbing against some on the bottom. I will try to put up some pictures as soon as I can to track my progress.
It's kind of exciting, you know? I can't wait to see how straight they turn out!!
Tomorrow will be my first day of work in my braces and I'm a little nervous about what people will say. Not like it matters of anything but I work at the bank as a teller so I am with customers all day. And I've been there for a few years now so lots of customers know me so I know I'll be hearing a lot of "Oh! You have braces?"
I'm probably just bring silly. Anyways, thanks for listening to me whine. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Great that your teeth are feeling so good and you can detect movement already, that's excellent!

Have a great time returning to work and possibly you'll find many people won't comment ... or notice. I worked as a counsellor and neither my colleagues or clients made comments. I went for two years with less than a handful of people mentioning I had braces. Then I started work for my orthodontist and quite a few people have said things ... but I think there's a very obvious reason for that. I firmly believe if your having ortho treatment is a positive thing, and you don't complain and whinge about your mouth/teeth etc to others, most people really don't care ... a bit like most medical problems!

Be confident in yourself and enjoy getting back to work!

Glad to hear things are going well so far, Davanie. I agree, it is amazing how quickly the teeth can move. There have been times when I've had noticeable moment in a tooth within just a few days.

Like Sunny, I haven't had many people mention my braces - and one of the persons who did, thought I was wearing a retainer at first! But of those who have mentioned them, the response has been positive.

Good luck and I hope things continue to go smoothly!

    Congrats!

Congratulations on getting your braces! Hope you don't get very sore. If they start bugging you, use the wax. It can help a lot =D
