I've lost my voice after getting braces!!

I got my braces fitted on Tuesday and by Saturday evening my voice was pretty raspy, then I'd completely lost it by Sunday so I'm completely resting it today. Is it possible this is connected to my braces? People said I'd talk a bit differently with the braces and I've been trying not to so maybe I've strained my vocal cords by overcompensating? I haven't been shouting or singing loudly, but I did take a group of ten on a winery tour on Saturday so was talking louder than normal for that.
Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know with braces?!

Sheba it's not something I've heard about being connected to getting braces, but anything is possible.

Most people don't talk differently when they get braces, although some people do move their upper lip a little different, mostly due to the brackets pressing the lip area out a little more.

Hope your voice returns quickly, but if you have any concerns about this being related to getting your braces, please give your ortho a call.

    Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Most likely you lost your voice due to a nasty little virus you picked up. The odd thing is that the day my sister got her braces, she also started feeling bad, got a terrible sore throat, lost her voice, the whole thing. We wondered as well if it was braces related, but it was just a virus she caught somewhere that happened to coincide with getting her braces on. Your braces have nothing to do with your vocal chords or anything in your throat, so maybe you even caught the virus at the doctor's office. I can't imagine all those people lying around all day breathing on everything makes for the most sanitary of environments (like a hospital...dirty!!). Hope you are feeling better very soon!

Thanks guys! The weird thing is though I didn't have a sore throat and felt fine apart from not being able to talk! Anyway I'm fine now!
