So I'm in the stages where my lower teeth, which were very crowded before are not only straight but a little wiggly. (Two Months now) I understand that's normal, but the sensation of my lower teeth "floating" whenever I drink something is kind of creepy. I have faith in the treatment and the fact that my teeth (seem) to be securely rooted in my jaw. My new problem (there ALWAYS seems to be something, right?) is my two front teeth keep clacking into my bottom front teeth when I eat and even talk sometimes. They didn't used to do that. I understand that once the teeth are aligned that new bite patterns emerge but I'm really concerned with the noticeable wear that the lower front two teeth are getting. A few millimeters have worn away, I'm sure. I go in on Monday for my first adjustment. I'm NOT looking forward to that. I will express my concern to my orthodontist as well. Is this common during the treatment? I'm contemplating getting veneers for a couple of my teeth post-treatment, but I don't want to have to get veneers for more teeth than necessary given the price tag. I've already got a special "Veneer-Savings account" started in anticipation of next October when my braces come off. Comments/Suggestions?
Hopefully you are worrying about this more than you need to. I would bet that the teeth are not being worn nearly so much as you think, given the short timeframe.
That said, do most certainly discuss your concerns and the physical discomfort this is causing, and see what he thinks. Perhaps a temporary spell with molar build-ups may be appropriate, or perhaps your ortho has some other ideas.
I am not a dental professional.
As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.
Talk to your ortho about how you're feeling and hopefully he'll be able to check out if you have in fact worn enamel away from your teeth coming into contact. I remember in the early days of my treatment, when my upper and lower teeth were both quite loose, it wasn't the nicest feeling with they came into contact, but I don't remember it lasting long, so hopefully it will all go well for you very soon also.
Here's to your first adjustment being a good one. These are appointments to look forward to, as you get to hear about how your teeth are progressing and to have your questions answered!
Good luck with your treatment!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
