    Red face extraction time..

My ortho told me my brace put on date is Sept.14th, and I have to have my four teeth extracted by then( fouth teeth top and bottom, left and right).

If I go take them out right now, will my teeth shift to the gap so that my teeth orientation will be different from what my ortho has?
Does it make any differences if I do extract then now? Otherwise i will just do it after september.

Bobo your teeth may move slightly due to the gaps. Which teeth and what type of ortho treatment are you having, as this may affect invisalign or direct bonding of brackets, but it shouldn't affect anything else.

If your ortho has told you to have these four teeth removed in this timeframe, then s/he must be confident that you won't have a problem!

    Thanl you very much Sunny.
Just hope the slightly move of my teeth won't affect my treatment... I will have my fourth teeth from center both up and down, and I will have SL braces..

Having brackets braces won't be affected by your extractions. As I wrote above, as long as your ortho has told you to do this ... then trust your ortho, as this is the person you're trusting to treat your bite!

    Good luck!

Just ask your ortho when he/she wants your teeth out, and then make your appointment for that day (give or take a day to fit the schedule of course). I had brackets put on before my extractions. They will put all your brackets on except on the teeth that are being pulled. Then about a week later they will put the wire in. Also, if you can, I would highly recommend going to an oral surgeon. Not only can they put you totally out for the extractions, but I had absolutely NO pain afterward. If something goes wrong with the extractions, sometimes a dentist can't get all the tooth or roots out and then you're left in a ton of pain, and will have to go to a surgeon anyway. One day of being drugged up and sleepy is totally worth it!

Denise I've had a few teeth removed and always by a general dentist. I think if the extractions are simple and straight forward, a general dentist is usually the best option. If the teeth are impacted, or there are other risk factors, then an oral surgeon would be the best choice.

Dentist's are definite able to carry out pain free extractions at a lot less expense than surgeons.

KiwiKaren is right. There is no reason why a trained and experienced dentist cannot perform straightforward extractions. I

I do tend to agree. And you're probably going to pay less at the general dentist too. But I know the allure of being unaware whilst it is done would be tempting to me ...

Anyway, if it is expected to be a simple extraction, have a word with your general dentist and see what he thinks.

Erupted teeth are not usually difficult to remove. Sometimes, they have to be removed before teeth are aligned due to crowding. Other times, it may be better to remove them later after teeth are aligned, so that the orthodontist is able to close space into a fresh extraction site, rather than one that has begun to refill with bone.

When there are a number of extractions involved, many patients prefer the services of an oral surgeon. One of the main reasons if because they wish to be sedated during the procedure. Often times, patients wish to have their wisdom teeth removed also.

There are some general dentists who are experienced and comfortable about removing all the teeth in one visit. However, many do not wish to remove more than two at a time. Once again, this will be very specific to each individual provider.

    All the best!

Well thanks for all your opinions.... My home dentist is a oral surgeon as well... I trust his skill....And I am going to do it tomorrow morning.... >_<

Just another thing that I found out last night... It seems like my gum line is decreasing..Now I can see the huge part of my teeth....Do I have any gum disease? is there any cure for that?

I love my dentist to clean my teeth, but I could never handle being awake for something like that. Plus, I know people who work in the regional dental industry and heard WAY too many horror stories about simple extractions gone wrong, which is why I chose the surgeon. It was fast, pain free, no memories of it, and my insurance covered about 80% of it. So for me personally it was the best choice.

An oral surgeon is a type of dentist who has gone through between 4-6 additional years of training (in North America), usually working with orthognathic surgery, extractions, exposures, implants, removal of pathology, etc. They are specialists in their field.

Of interest, many often mistaken their general dentist for an oral surgeon. The degree conferred by many dental schools is a DDS or Doctor of Dental Surgery. As such, many dentists call themselves dental surgeons, making it somewhat confusing for someone who is not in the dental field.

I'd also add that if anyone is contemplating orthognathic surgery, they should seek out an oral surgeon who specialises in these particular types of procedure.
