My first pair of braces are on me right now. They are clear and thought to be more delicate compared to the stainless steel (they're not to me though :/). Only parts I'm not used to are the molar braces. One of them is annoying me. Will I get used to it in time?
Ceramic brackets are very hard, so hard, that many ortho's will not allow patients to have them on their lower teeth if there's a risk the top teeth may knock them, as they can chip teeth.
Keep the molar brackets well covered with wax, until that area isn't sore, then hopefully your mouth will have toughed with the wax rubbing, which won't cause the skin to break. It may take a week or two to adjust, but hopefully you'll be surprised at how quickly you do adjust.
Good luck with your treatment!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
You'll get used to all of it, though in the beginning it sure doesn't seem like you will!! It's just like with anything new. Eventually it all just becomes normal. Your cheecks will likely be cut to pieces for a while but eventually you'll develop calluses and I promise you, the pain will go away and you'll be back to feeling and eating (relatively) the same as you were.
Wow ... in four years my cheeks have never been cut up and I don't have any calluses. I guess it depends on how your mouth copes with the brackets, plus how well you care for your mouth in the early months. My ortho is a firm believer in using warm salt water rinses and generous amounts of wax until your mouth firms. Without sores and cuts, there won't be calluses, but the skin still firms nicely.
Good luck with your mouth and I hope the calluses disappear with time.
