    electronic tooth brushes

    Hello,

I was wondering if it was OK to use an electronic tooth brush? I was using one before I got braces but ever since I got them on, it is painful to use it because of the vibrations of the tooth brush. Some people have said not to use it because it may provide to much vibration against the brackets or that it could possibly due some damage...but I wasn't sure so i'm just here to get more input/advice/opinions...What do u guys think?

stCx86 you need to check out some of the posts in this forum, as you'll find quite a few discussion about using electric toothbrushes and the ones we all prefer. If you can't damage your teeth with your electric toothbrush before you had braces, you'll not be able to damage the now. You should never press hard, so maybe this is a good time for you to learn how to use your brush correctly ... as sensitive teeth will let you know if you're using too much pressure.

My favourite brush is my new Oral B Triumph ... but I also loved my old Oral B ... which I don't think even had a name and only cost about $10 at the supermarket ... a few years back ... and it still runs!

Good luck with your oral hygiene and the comfort of your teeth!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I uses sonicare from philip. I know what you are saying that the vibration is painful for the sore teeth. I am in my brace just few days, but notice that the 70% soreness gone already. It won't hurt that much now when I use the ele-brush.

I have the cheap Oral B toothbrush from the store, it was $15 and has a timer on it which I love. I bought the extra-soft brush heads for it, and it's fantastic. Really blasts the junk out of my teeth and gets in and around those brackets well for me. The sonicare is a really nice toothbrush, but is super expensive. The only difference between my Oral B and my friends sonicare is that hers is slightly smaller and lighter in size, and a little bit quieter. They both brush the same (oh and I had to buy my own vs. her mom buying the sonicare for her haha). But, her $100+ toothbrush does not have a timer on is, whereas mine does.

As previous posters said, you should never press hard when brushing with any toothbrush, and the same goes for an electric. Glide it lightly over your teeth and in and around your brackets and you'll do great.

I have the sonicare and love it. I have always used it and my Ortho said it would be great on my braces. You still have to gently angle the brush line a manual one but its all good. My teeth went through a huge movement period where they were more tender than normal. On those days I dont put it right back on the charger so it still works but isnt as intense as when its fully charged.
