    clear ligatures on metal brackets

I've had braces for six weeks now (my teeth have already significantly moved, but they never have hurt yet. Should I consider myself lucky? I digress ...)

Anyway, I have clear/ceramic brackets on my top teeth (with clear ligatures, of course.) But for the metal brackets I have on top (second premolars and first molars [no brackets on my second molars]) the orthodontist's assistant put a clear ligature on one of my metal brackets.

After seeing it compared to my metal brackets with gray ligatures iI'm thinking I like the look of clear ligatures on a straight metal bracket better; without the obvious appearance of a colored ligature (even if gray.)

Of course I'm only able to judge the appearance from my one bracket with this setup. I don't really know how clear ligatures will look on all of my metal brackets.

Has anyone here had clear ligatures on their metal brackets?

I've rarely had any discomfort in four years ... and no pain ... and my teeth have moved heaps. Pain free movement is definitely possible with the modern archwires ... and is the best way!

We occassionally have clients who ask for clear on their metal brackets and like it. I'm into colour, but for them, clear is what they like ... and when it stains, it doesn't look so stained when around the wings of a metal bracket.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

It's great that you've found something you like and have found treatment so comfortable to this stage!

In general, our patients tend to like silver ligs on metal brackets instead of the clear ones. When the clear ones stain, it tends to look more obvious and many have commented that it looks like there is a piece of food stuck on the brace.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment!
