Braces and concentration and focus issues

    Hello,

Im new to the forum and have had the damon braces for the past 13 months.. I just had a few questions concerning issues with memory and concentration during treatment. It all started about 4-5 months ago when the thicker archwires were inserted. I started noticing that I was losing focus very easily and couldnt concentrate as well as I once had. Very frustrating! I have also just recently been getting very fatigued easily and really have no energy to do much of anything. It is very interesting that all these symptoms started when the treatment got more intense, so I started looking up articles dealing with my exact symptoms and it seems that it is more than likely due to a maxillary sinus inflammation (since the upper teeth are almost directly connected to them, and the movement of the teeth is causing the severe inflammation). I don't think its an infection...not sure though. I have my next adjustment in only a couple of days and was going to request an x ray from my otrtho, which would be able to tell if i had any fluid build up. But, I am thinking that I also might have menningeal irritation, from the pressure on the nerves, which is causing me to have the mental issues. That is the biggest concern for me... I am not displaying any symptoms of meningitis, but I have also read that if a sinus infection stays present long enough, it can ultimately lead to bacterial meningitis...eeeeks!

Anyone with any ideas or experience with stuff like this is very appreciated! Thanks for reading.

you poor thing! i have suffered with very bad sinusitis for a few years now, and it is very unpleasant! Mine hasn't been caused by orthodontic work, and i'm not really sure whether it can be caused by orthodontics, and you definitely need to talk to your ortho about this! Could you give the office a call, tell them whats going on, and see what they say? They may be able to see you sooner or advise you? If they can't see you quickly, or they're not sure whats going on, how about seeing your own doctor? They should also be able to help, and assess all possible causes and answer your questions and concerns.

If you do think you're developing signs of meningitis, trust your instincts, and you should seek medical help immediately.

    Good luck!

Talk to your ortho and also make an appointment to see your doctor, as this is something that needs to be investigated.

There are many things that could be causing you to be feeling the way you are, and you need to get this sorted, as feeling fatigued all the time must be horrid!

Good luck with getting this worted and feeling heaps better very soon!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

You need to either call your ortho's office today and ask them for advice, or call your Physician and get looked at. Every day that you let pass could worsen your condition. Especially if it's serious, every minute counts. You know your body better than anyone else, and pain and those other symptoms are its way of telling you something is wrong. Trust your instincts and make an appointment today. Good luck to you!
