    Bracket Repositioning

I had my 5th appointment today, and it was a very productive one at that...They almost let me leave with just new wires and all that, but I asked him about my front tooth which is a tad bit longer than the other one and I feel like it's really noticable, especially when I see myself in pictures. I asked how long before we could fix that, and he thought about it, and said, heck lets just do it now...(instead of Oct)...so got my 2 front upper brackets popped off...and OMG---I almost jumped OFF the table! That was not fun, not even close. She did say ceramic were tougher to come off, and I can believe it. My eyes watered, I think I squeaked a few times and seriously after the glue was "buffed" off, I thought I was going to throw UP! Ya'll please pray for me next year when they all come off, because I am dreading that (the reward after is what keeps me going)...anyway, so now I have my 2 front brackets moved and now my once straight wire is slighly crooked again, dipped in the front...but I can already tell it is doing it's "thing" because my one "longer" front tooth is feeling it! They didn't put the power chain back on as they are needing to shift those front teeth, and I may even get another slight gap but they can fix that next month. I can't wait for them to line up better, they are doing so well but the unevenness of the top teeth was really bothering me. Will take pics when I get home...my teeth shift fast so it won't be long. I am on a break from elestics after 3 months of wearing, but will go back to them next month. Got a thicker wire on the bottom again, but no real issues there. Next month they are doing some shaving (As they were going to do the last 2 visits, but change their mind each time) and put me back in a heavier wire up top.
Anyway, that's my visit for today.....roll on the next 6 weeks so I can lose this snaggle look I have going on!!

Sounds like a great appointment. Shame about the removing of your brackets, but hopefully when the final day comes, your teeth will be more settled and the discomfort won't be so bad.

Where I work, the ceramic brackets we use 'pop' off the same as metal ones, due to the bonding and tool used to remove them. The tough part is usually the removal of the bonding and this is the same no matter what type of brackets the person has on.

Good luck with your front teeth soon looking great!

Thanks Sunny...by the end of the night..next morning, my front tooth lined up with the other one...amazing....a bit painful but I get why! I am probably going to get a couple of gaps now as they took off my power chain and I don't have any ligs pulling my upper teeth together anymore as I guess the teeth were needing to reposition and with them being new brackets, didn't want them to pop off. The edges of my upper teeth are all lining up...I am amazed! I am going to enjoy this pretty teeth time until the gaps start up(hoping they won't)...did get pics taken so will put them up to show the differences.

and yes, the removal of the glue was really tough, all that whirring and stuff...UGH..I can't wait to get these off next year, but will dread that part!

Fantastic that your teeth are together and looking like you want when they're finished!

I've been meaning to take a pic of my gap that's finally been closed ... over my impacted canine ... first time that gap has ever been closed ... it's amazing. I've had a few gaps open, even with powerchains and elastics, but it took a lot of pressure to close that one ... so I'm not too concerned, as I know the other gaps will close again.

Good luck with your continuing great progress!

I don't if repositioning is good or bad during the treatment, but my ortho did mention to me that he will reposition some of the bracket along the way...

Wow I'm so excited for you that they are fixing that tooth!! I love when we're at the 'seeing results' stage. I am so close to having my crooked laterals straight that I can't hardly stand it. Someday they will look great! I don't know if my ortho plans to reposition any of my brackets, but I can tell you I'm not looking forward to it. Everyone I know on here who has ceramic brackets says they are horrible and painful to have removed, and I'm sure I am no exception, as I have been having horrible pain the entire time of my treatment thus far. Congrats on having some time without the elastics! I think at my next appt on 10/12, I'm going to have to get them and I'm REALLY not looking forward to it.

Thanks Denise....I think it's pretty common to have to have a bracket moved around...although I agree...was not fun to get those things off...ugh!
I loved my elastics, really I did. I am still wearing them at night though, I can't stand the thought of losing any progress..so I go without during the day and put them in before I go to bed. Checked with the ortho, and this is okay. Elastics did major things to my smile, my bite was so much better within weeks. I never would have thought 2 rubber bands were capable of doing so much! You will see a difference quickly!
Next month they will do a little IPR on my upper teeth so although this grosses me out too, I am looking forward to see what that brings. So glad your treamtent is going well too...it is so worth all the discomfort isn't it? So glad I did this!

Most of the time, the removal of a bracket is a pretty simple procedure. Metal brackets flex a bit, and the interface with the glue should give, allowing the bracket to come off easily. Ceramic brackets may require a slightly different procedure to take off, but again, shouldn't be overly uncomfortable. 3M's Clairty gained popularity due to relative ease of removal but AO's Radiance has now taken quite a bit of market share as it has proven to come off teeth quite easily as well.

Generally, the person removing the bracket should support the tooth, and make sure the bracket-removing plier is gripping the bracket properly. If either of these is not done, there may be more discomfort than should be necessary.

Repositioning brackets may be done for various reasons. Sometimes, the teeth were too crooked to start, not allowing the bracket to be placed ideally from the onset. Other times, the orthodontist may want to change the position of a bracket to aid in alignment or rotation of a particular tooth. It is a common procedure in orthodontics .

Bobo the reposition of brackets is a great way to get the movement that's desired. This is such an easy way for the ortho to achieve movement that otherwise wouldn't be possible.

Look forward to this happening, as it means you're closer to getting rid of all the hardware!
