Gap in front two teeth >:(

I have had my braces on for about 2 years and a bit, and very close to getting them removed. The orthodontist was telling me he couldn't close the gap between my front two teeth as my bite ruined them before I got the braces on.

The gap is around 2mm at the bottom half but are connected fine at the top, he was telling me about getting some sort of material to make it look like there is no gap.

I was wondering how this procedure works and how it looks compared to natural teeth with no gaps in the front.

    thanks in advance

Hi Napo ... does your ortho mean having a piece of bonding put on to your teeth, so that your teeth meet at the bite surface? If he does, the material can come in whatever shade is necessary to match the surface of your teeth, making it invisible to the naked eye.

You need to talk to your ortho about how often this may need to be replaced and what will be the best bonding material for you.

It's great that your treatment is nearly over!

that's wierd that he can't close the gap. Maybe you or him already know this (or have used it already), but have you asked him about power chains?

From what I know (only had my braces on for 2 weeks), powerchains are used to close any gaps.

I was told I will need the same thing. Because my laterals were almost completely twisted, they are smaller than my other teeth, so he said he's going to leave a bit of a gap and I'll need to have some of the bonding stuff put on, to make them even. My ortho said it lasts for years, and will be inspected when I go in for my usual dental appointments. From what I've heard it's very common for some imperfections to be left after orthodontic treatment, and a lot of people have some cosmetic stuff done afterward.

Vlsh ... it's not a real gap, but is about the shape of the teeth. At the top ... near the gum, the teeth are touching, but due to their shape, the lower part doesn't meet ... and therefore never will.

Sometimes these teeth respond to IPR, but that depends on how large the gap is. Often bonding is the best option.

My upper centrals meet at the bite surface, but not at the gum due to one tooth being worn in a funny way. My ortho is planning to use IPR so that my teeth can be closed using powerchains ... it's all about the shape and whether they can ever touch.

Denise it sounds like your ortho is making a judgement to help your teeth look a little larger and fit in better with your other teeth! Good luck!
