I have had a consulation for braces and was told I was an excellent candidate for Invisalign because I am a very strong teeth grinder and clencher. I have searched this site and have seen no reference to this. Is this true? I plan on an additional consultation now. I am not really sold on the idea of wearing these things and taking them in and out - but it may be better then the pain of regular braces. I had braces when I was in high school (36yrs old now). I am more interested in solving my bite problem then being concerned with others knowing I have "treatment" going on. Cost may be greater but I anticipate my employer/insurance to pay for most if not all of it. I sensed that the invisalign was being pushed on me. I can do the other braces but that I risk damaging the brackets since I grind my teeth so strongly. I wear a bite plane for now (a night guard is another term for it) and have for probably about 6yrs now.
I am unable to see how I can break the brackets by clenching (more my problem then grinding) - they are on the side of my teeth not the bottom?!?!
Thank you for any advice.
get antoher opinion! I also grind my teeth and was recommended by 3 different orthodontist to get metal braces. You can do sooooooooooo much more with metal braces than with invisalign. Not only correct your bite but improve crowding, overbite/underbite, etc.
The brakets are the way to go usually. Sometimes older technology is better than the new.
Thank you! I am looking to schedule another consultation appt and I have my dentist check up this week so I will have him to speak with also. Thanks for the push to get more opinions!
So do you feel that you are not grinding/clenching as much as your bite improves with the braces? Sounds like you may expect it to?
...you have invisalign though and wish you had metal braces?
