i have an edge to edge bite , and 2 crooked teeth.
i had braces on my upper teeth for a year and recently got braces on my lower teeth. initially my ortho said he could correct my bite by extracting teeth, but he changed his mind or forgot about it, so now i have braces on my bottom teeth to correct my crooked right lateral, and now he says that he only MIGHT be able to correct my bite.
now i realized my two bottom central teeth are getting pulled outwards, and im afraid that it might make my bite worst.
i called him and he said he is trying to straighten my teeth before correcting my bite.
i wanna know if this is a case of the condition getting worst before it can get better?
i have been wearing braces on my upper teeth for one year to correct my upper right cuspid, and it isnt fully corrected yet.
is it supposed to take so long..
if he is straightening my teeth before correcting my bite does that mean i have to be in braces for like 5 years???
If your teeth is really screwed up (no offense), then yes it will. Usually orthodontists are qualified to do their job but things happen. They have a lot of patients and he only sees you once a month. Usually there's also charts that he marks down of what he did before and what he should do on the next appointment. If you're really worried, make your parents ask him what you asked on this thread, lol.
Whatever, alignment needs to be sorted before work on the bite can be done.
You need to ask your ortho about the extractions ... do you still need them ... if so when? Extractions aren't needed very often any more, but some people still need them. Also extractions are sometimes done before treatment starts, soon after treatment starts and some are done later in treatment, after the ortho can confirm that the progress will not occur with extractions.
You also need to ask your ortho about why the straightening of those teeth is taking so long? Some teeth that need to be rotated may take longer, but most people have their treatment finished within a couple of years.
Edge to edge bites may or may not be able to be corrected with braces alone ... it depends on whether your issues are skelatal or dental. My edge to edge bite is dental, so it can be corrected without surgery, although surgery would probably have meant a much faster treatment time. For me it's requiring lots of class III elastic wear ... and a lot of waiting ... but it is happening ... slowly ... but it is happening!
Good luck having a good talk to your ortho about your concerns!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
