HI ... I am the gril that was contemplating getting braces cuz i was scared to look ugly my problem was that my adult tooth was coming in behind my baby tooth this is regarding my canine tooth... my last post had the same topic (I HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS) Anyways i got my braces on today and i have to admit they arnt as bad as i thought they would be.... but i do have a few questions #1 i heard that dentists are supposed to use that really bright bluw light.... to harden the glues... my dentist ddnt do. that and he also just "polished" my teeth he didnt really clean them as i they usually clean them when i go for a cleaning is that normal? also one last thing he said i can come in every 2 weeks for adjusments to get them off sooner... hes not really moving any of my teeth because they are all 100% perfect except that canine tooth... is this all normal pls tell me if its not... THANK YOUUU!!!

Hi Anna Marie and great you've started your treatment.

Are you being treated by an orthodontist or a dentist. Hopefully it's by an orthodontist, and if so, they don't clean teeth. It's up to the patient to visit their dentist prior to getting braces to have their teeth cleaned. This is not something that should be happening on the day your braces go on. The 'polish' that is done before brackets are bonded, is not to clean your teeth, but to very slightly 'rough' the enamel to help the bonding adhere.

About the bonding of the brackets ... sounds like your ortho has a different way to make the bonding set. You'll soon know how good it is, as if the brackets stay where they're bonded, then that's all that's needed to happen.

Your treatment is quite different, due to the work only being around one area of your mouth. The way your ortho is treating this, will be to the best of his skill and if he says to come in every two weeks, then he must consider your teeth (and there roots) will be ready for an adjustment that often.

Good luck ... and please trust your ortho, as this is the person with the specialised training in tooth movement.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

There are two ways the resin can set. One type requires a light to cure it. There are other resins that are dual cure, ie can cure with light or just on its own. In the latter, two different pastes are mixed together, with one catalyst and base. It is not as common but still used by some orthodontists.

The two week adjustments are probably overkill. More frequent visits does not necessarily mean faster treatment, depending on the stage. Teeth can only move at a certain speed and still be healthy.
