Damon 3s vs. Invisalign for single adult?

    Hi,

I'm 37 and single and need braces. I have some crowding, a couple incisors that need rotating a bit and a narrow smile that has my back teeth leaning inward. it's nothing dramatically bad when i smile but when you take a good look things could clearly improve.

My ortho has me between Invisalign for nearly 2 years and paying 5800 or Damon 3s for about a year and a half and paying 5200.

From what I gather, Damons will achieve better results (broader smile in particular) in less time and slightly less money... but Invisalign you have the less conspicuous style and you get the relief of being able to take them out on occasion for eating, or going on a date.

If it wasn't for Damon's supposedly doing a better job, I'd sign up for Invisalign in a heartbeat ... as is, this is a tough choice for me (also, i like to snack a lot, got low blood sugar, so concerned about Damons restricting my diet ... or having to take Invisalign out every few minutes).

Thanks for any help making this important choice

    Jim

Ya, i would go with Damons, even if I was dating... You can still snack like you want you just have to be careful and watch the sticky foods..

That's a tough one Jim ... due to the brackets your ortho uses being so much more 'in your face' than many modern brackets are.

About the liking to snack ... that's way easier to do with brackets than with invisalign. Reason ... with brackets you snack and that's it. With invisalign, you have to remove the aligners, snack and clean before putting the aligners back in. If the food or liquid has acid in it, you need to rinse, rinse and rinse and not brush for 30 minutes before putting the aligners in ... and still you need to try to get 22 hours wear a day, to get the best results from invisalign. Eating is loads easier with brackets and brackets require much less discipline with regards to wearing them.

Have you asked your ortho about how skilled he is with using invisalign to rotate teeth and rounding arches? It can be done, but it takes an ortho who's had additional training and has skill to follow carefully what's happening with your teeth and there roots. These types of movements are quite new with invisalign ... and from what our premium provider says, there will be more amazing things happening with invisalign very soon ... but you've got to be dedicated and well trained.

In general the archwire used with bracket braces can achieve rotations and a rounded arch more easily than invisalign ... but you still have pros and cons to weight up. Good luck with your decision.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
