chipped a bracket + other question

hey guys,i have braces to fix a bunch of gaps and was eating cereal and accidentally chipped the corner of a bracket with my spoon. i have in-ovation c braces. i circled below where i chipped a piece off. its the area where the little white wire is wrapped around the bracket..the archwire is still in place and the little wire thing is still in place..is this really a problem? I have an appointment in 11 days and just wondering if i should wait till then to bring it up or if i should call. i broke off this part

Also, ive had braces on abut 3 weeks and noticed a little while ago that on the back of my 2 middle bottom teeth the root is becoming exposed, like my 2 teeth are being pulled out of the gums, you can see the really white unexposed(till now) part of the teeth at the bottom. is this normal?

Aryan as long as everything is in place you shouldn't have a problem. Still give your ortho a call, so they know they'll have this to deal with when you come for your next appointment.

How did you break this with a spoon? These brackets are extremely hard ... they can break teeth ... the reason why many ortho's won't put them on bottom teeth, to prevent you chipping your teeth. Do you think the bracket was already damaged?

Definitely talk to your ortho asap about your bottom tooth ... that doesn't sound good ... but your ortho may have a plan, or this may be due to your gum recession.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot
This(crappy) pic if from like a week ago before it happened

the spoon somehow went in this gap where the arrow is and chipped off the corner where i circled

As far as the exposed teeth, I have teeth that go straight up and down like
l
l
I guess and he wants to shape them to go outward like
\

so i figure it may be the braces doing that. But I'm pretty sure he said he is just closing my gaps first which will take 3 months, then putting on a suresmile wire to correct that issue and my slight overbite so I dunno.

Also my front teeth overlap my bottom brackets so i'm pretty confused as to how my overbite can be fixed if this is the case, ill just have to wait and ask him i guess.

At some point your bite will open a little, which will then allow for your slight overbite to be brought into a class I ... where the top teeth close slightly in front of the lowers.

I still can't imagine how a spoon broke a piece of a ceramic bracket. Ceramic is soooooooooooo hard ... I've seen brackets been broken ... it usually takes extreme force. I would think it would have felt like someone was twisting your tooth out, before the spoon could have done that ... amazing.

Good luck with having your gaps closed!

Since you have an SL bracket, that tie wing isn't always necessary. It may be used if powerchain or a ligature has to be tied around there, but for the time being, it shouldn't affect the ligation of the wire. Give your orthodontist a call and find out if they'd like to see you sooner.

Thanks for your guys help, the bracket was chipped but didn't need replacing, interestingly the 'exposed teeth" was hardened plaque, strange because it wasn't there before. This was a hygiene appointment I went to and I will be honest, I haven't flossed even once since I got braces. Just used my power toothbrush and waterpik after eating as well as listerine 2x per day, yet she said my hygiene was totally perfect.

Great your hygienist was happy at this appointment Aryan ... it took many years for my gum disease to appear ... due to not flossing ... but it did happen and it was a costly and painful process to get it sorted. I now floss every day ... much easier than gum disease that has left me with lifetime issues.

I don't understand what you mean about the hardened plaque, as plaque is a sign of poor hygiene, as you should be cleaning all the plaque off your teeth when you brush.

Good luck with your treatment continuing to go well!
