    New with Braces

I got my upper Braces put on Dec 1st, i had pain from 2nd day and lasted for 2 days then on one side wire started cutting the tissue since i have a gap i9 missing so wire was rubbing against skin and it got sore but doctor put cushion on wire then i didn't had any problem, but one thing which is bothering me alot is ---while i speak my mouth is too dry or what, that skin is stretched out and i feel very awkward while speaking...i get very conscious while speaking to people around me... does wax help with this????????? im not sure..what exactly wax is for?

Great your treatment has started Divs!

It's important to keep your body well hydrated. Water is also good for helping your mouth cope better with your new hardware ... so remember to drink more if your mouth feels dry.

Wax is to put over any brackets, or the archwire, if they're rubbing the inside of your mouth or tongue. They allow your mouth and tongue to toughen without getting sores. Always wear wax for at least 24 hours longer than you think you need it ... just to be on the safe side. Wax can be worn while you're eating ... and only needs to be removed when you brush.

Good luck adjusting ... and remember that warm salt water rinses are soothing and good for your mouth!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

There's several reasons why this may happen ... or appear to be happening. The most frequent, is that the bonding that is holding the bracket onto your teeth has became lightly stained, and this can make your teeth look stained. Or it could be a shadow from the brackets/archwire that are making your teeth look this way.

Ask your ortho when you see him next and hopefully he'll be able to tell you that it's nothing to be concerned about.

I have no idea why your face would be showing changes, unless it's swollen for some reason not connected to you having braces. For the face to change structually due to having orthodontic treatment, surgery is needed. Maybe you're just looking way more at your face than you used to and things are appearing different. Sorry but I can't help with that one.

    Good luck!
