    Question swollen gum

    Hey everyone,
Well for the past few days ive had a cold.. but ive been brushing after every meal and once in the morning and once at night. I must admit i dont floss everyday more like every other day. Today i woke up and went to brush my teeth and noticed my top tooth next to my fright top tooth was slightly covered by swollen gum. It doesnt hurt but i find this weird. My top four teeth seem to have slightly swollen gums. Again, its not painful and when i flossed the only tooth that hurt was my top right tooth. I know this could be gingivitus becuse i havent been flossing enough or brushing long enough.. this has never happened to me.

Floss more and you should be back to normal.

I recommend you carry a bag of floss picks in your car and floss after each meal... When i go to the dentist they are shocked out how healthy my gums are.... That is because I floss at least twice per day.

Jos be careful when you brush, as many people over brush and damage both the enamel on their teeth and their gums. Over brushing can make gums swell, but so can teeth moving. It's quite common for gums to swell a little during orthodontic treatment.

If this area becomes red and hot ... then please contact your dentist/hygienist, as there may be something under the gum that is causing an infection. If the area remains swollen, but doesn't cause any more problems, talk to your ortho about it at your next appointment.

My recommendation from your description ... brush less and floss once a day ... although flossing every second day is still great, as over flossing can cause problems also!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
