    Finally!

I finally did it!! I posted sometime last year stating how expensive my first consulation was(6500). I had a couple more consuls after that and finally found a place that was resonable and doesn't like to do extractions. The dentist told me we will see how I do first and if it comes down to it he will do shaving or two extractions. The total price was $3800 so I jumped at that. I read so many blogs that they practically scared me to death. I think the spacers mainly scared me the most but luckly for me I didn't have to get them. The process was quick and I don't have a lot of pain but mostly pressure. I am so thankful for the wax. My front teeth at the top are really crowded and I have the speed braces so hopefully soon I will start to see some changes. I try and post some pictures later.

Great you've found the right ortho and your treatment has started!

Wax can be a great friend in the early days and it's a food feeling when we don't have to worry about mouth sores.

If you have quite a bit of alignment work that needs sorting, you should see movement quite quickly, as the archwires first job is to align the teeth in the arch. Good luck with seeing progress!

Good luck and here's to everything going well for you!

Your mouth will toughen with the wax in place, as your cheeks etc will rub on the wax. Removing the wax before the skin has toughened may result in mouth sores and then after they heal, the new cells have to begin toughening again.

Here's to you seeing results soon!

I'm seeing less and less ortho's using spacers... I guess they are doing without the molar bands?

The buccal brackets seem to be a popular choice among many orthos now Mike, with the use of buttons on the lingual side of teeth, if an attachment is needed on that side.

I've never seen a spacer at the place I work, although I know of another ortho close by who still uses them, so I'm guessing it'll be about personal choice a lot of the time, the same as it is for many things to do with orthodontics.

Oh, I thought it wouldn't toughen with the wax but that is good to know. I was able to eat some pancakes and eggs today which was a relief. It really isn't that bad having them on.

Great that you're enjoying food and finding eating is getting better!

It's strange how we sometimes get the idea of the wax confused. The wax is a different texture to our mouths and therefore causes a friction that helps the skin to toughen. The wax also takes away the hard edges of the brackets, so it allows the skin to toughen without the risk of breaking it, a sore developing, new cells having to repair the sore ... and the whole process needing to start again.

Good luck with thing continuing to go well for you!

I'm with Sunny (as always) - using wax doesn't make you weak! Its like taking aspiring when you feel sick - just a temporary relief while your body adjusts. Congrats on getting started on your treatment!
